This sounds like a play for the Governorship rather than the Senate. This is way too late in the game to have any chance, but it will make his name recognized State wide for when Edwards rides off.

My guess is that it is like disability at a number of the plants around here... they give it to minorities when they can’t prove things because it is less hassle than fighting them.

Perk claims to have graduated from West Point and Harvard Law but is several bricks shy of a load and has an IQ slightly above that of a carrot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cassidy is a pretty terrible GOP candidate. I think Trump being on the ballot will get him a win in the primary, but if this goes to a runoff, I could see republican apathy leading to a narrow defeat. Cassidy isn’t liked by many and he has zero political instincts or charisma. He’s like Jeb without the pedigree with even worse public speaking skills who also just happens to look like a pedo.
If the Democratic field against him wasn’t so weak, I would be betting against him.

How many Dems have won statewide office in the past 10 years?
Sloth back-doored his way in through letting three GOP candidates beat each other up then ran for re-election.
Most other state offices are GOP held.

Seriously, it's like a first baseman hitting .150 for the year and then demanding that his salary be doubled.

Louisiana likes big personalities. Kennedy has one, Landry does, Billy does. No one really cares about insurance commissioner, secretary of state, or treasurer, but Ardoin’s got a big personality as well. Cassidy doesn’t. Louisiana conservatives are NOT reliable and prone to staying home. Democrat voter fraud is very reliable. If the DNC was running a bigger name, I think they’d beat him. Heck, I bet Mary would beat him if she ran against him again.

Hahahahahahahaha
No Dem has a chance this specific election because it's a presidential election. He will win by at least 15 points.
He isn't going to get the same help in Shreveport that elected him mayor.
The state is going to vote in droves for trump and almost everyone down ballot on the GOP side will prosper from it.

But the presidential election is the same day as the primary. If Cassidy doesn’t get over 50%, then it goes to a runoff where Trump isn’t on the ballot. I’m worried that Cassidy is a shite campaigner who won’t get 50 in the primary and then apathy and poor political instincts (probably some really dumb quote driven home in attack ads) will drive down turnout for the dem fraud machine to win in a runoff.
I don’t think that’s going to happen, but I could see it as a possibility.

You won’t go broke betting on the stupidity of Louisiana voters. So called Republican voters love to stay home and watch football, or eat. There’s also a bunch who won’t vote if their candidate isn’t way up in the polls - don’t want to be caught voting for a loser. Add in that Cassidy is a boring zero personality candidate and this guy might pull enough votes to deny Cassidy a first round victory. Perkins didn’t decide this on his own, someone has some data that shows Cassidy is vulnerable.

Unless some other republican with statewide recognition jumps in the race Cassidy easily wins in the first round. Perkins run is likely about getting his name out their and developing a campaign infrastructure for a future election. Even under perfect circumstances a democrat without heavy BR and NO connections stands no chance of winning statewide anyway.

Perkins graduated from West Point. Took an honor code. That means he's already locked up a certain segment of crossover Republicans. Can coast to the finish line.
Posted on 7/22/20 at 1:07 pm to NOLALGD
That may be true, but Cassidy is a very poor candidate. He benefited from Landrieu fatigue. This will be his first reelection which is the most dangerous for an incumbent. He will probably have another Democrat in the race just to split off some support. Wouldn’t surprise me to see a big name Republican jump in.

They’re gonna flaunt that Harvard and West Point all over the place. Cassidy gonna throw that MD D all around too.
