Well when you pay a really low state income tax, have great roads and schools, you have pay a little extra here and there.

Louisiana has some of the highest taxes already. This is BS.

Second highest sales taxes in the nation.

Louisiana is very safe and public schools are great as well. Not sure why the OP is so upset with paying just a little bit more in taxes on his Ebay purchases.

Sales taxes on internet purchases are a scam.

When you are a local business, sales taxes have some logical reasons for existing. There are police that protect your business and roads that provide public access, among other public services.

When I buy something in Louisiana that is shipped to me from Montana, none of those things come into play.

At most, they should charge only a small internet sales tax fee, not the full sales tax amount.

This is somewhat misleading because it is the average for a state. In Chicago we get the privilege of paying 10.25% sales tax.

We also have among the highest property taxes in the country

quote:

Illinois has the second-highest property taxes in the nation. Kiplinger calculated that on a $400,000 home in the state, the average property tax bill could be $9,634.

After Wayfair, the vast majority of states are doing this now.

Yes...as long as you mean the Supreme Court decision and not the human trafficking stuff. This bill attempts to apply state and local sales taxes more uniformly. It's definitely not a perfect new law, but it's also not like Amazon delivery trucks don't use our roads and bridges.

The real problem is that local and state government officials regularly find new and creative ways to waste our tax dollars. Basically government across our state is like a FlexSeal boat...it floats but there are better options.

Had forgot all about it. Just got hit with $80 on an old camera lens. It's not a huge amount, but really hated paying that unexpectedly like that.

Yes, bought several things on Ebay the last few days, all were taxed. Even used stuff.
