Wish I could upvote this more than once!

Dr. Fauci is careful to say that while wearing a mask is not "100% effective," it is a valuable safeguard and shows "respect for another person.”

"Not 100% effective" is an excellent work around if you don't want to have to say 0% effective.

Another thing that pisses me off, speaking of Fauci, is him telling us that they don't work and we shouldn't be wearing one before him now saying we should. His excuse is that they lied to save masks for the docs and nurses. Are we suppose to be ok with being lied to??

Nah... I've seen pts on vents, it CAN be worse.

But I know there's a large group of people who think it's nothing, because they haven't seen it firsthand, and the percentages are so low.

It's really a weird disease, kinda like Russian Roulette in a way (with better odds of survival). 99% of us can get it and survive just fine, like a pretty bad cold. But that small percentage that it takes ahold of, it REALLY hits hard, and we can't seem to find a way to arrest the progress.

So, no, it isn't going to wipe the population out if we ignore it, but it WILL kill a higher percentage than "normal" seasonal ailments.

You know people with the flu go on vents, too - right?

When someone says "COVID is like a bad flu" they don't mean it's nothing. They mean it's like a flu but worse to some manageable degree.

Your Russian Roulette comment - is there that sort of element with a hard flu? (honest question) Or is it pretty much predictable without exceptions who the flu is going to put into the ICU and possibly kill?

I really don't care. It's not my job to protect everybody else.

Buddy of mine and his son have rona, felt fine other than lost their taste and sense of smell. His wife and youngest son are asymtomatic.

We don't wear masks to contain the cold or the FLU or shut down the country.

Somebody is absulutly lying about the serverity one way or the other. I think masks are stupid at this point.

I guess we'll find out the truth in early November.

We can wear masks as a courtesy or we can let things go south as they are and have the leviathan intervene in the economy again. I’d prefer masks.

I have not except once place that I had to go that required it.

Other times I feel guilty when I see an older man shopping — I’m thinking he was doing it to protect his spouse. But I stay away from the older people and will go down a different aisle.

And then on the next aisle, I’ll be — there’s an older person sans mask.

In mass today, plenty of older people had masks and plenty did not. Those that did often played/adjusted them OR took them off all together.

I wear a mask because I respect the rules established by each individual business. It’s their business, their rules.

Ok so even if it was to save them for the professionals, they should have at the point, not weeks/months later, that “a face covering” would be fine.

I get that they needed to keep for those working in the environment of covid but if “face coverings” are good NOW, they were good then.

I haven't worn one yet. Just hoping that the company that I work for never tries to force the issue. I would seriously think about trying to find another job if they did. But I'm guessing that the job market isn't the greatest right now.

I follow a conservative doctor that's been posting advice on the Texags site and on Facebook.

He recommends wearing facemasks. He thinks it will lower cases and help keep businesses open.

He's been a voice of calm and reason during all of this.

Here's a link to his Facebook page:

I have a recently diagnosed blood condition, for which treatment affects my already high WBC count.

It’s my problem—no one else’s—and I’d never expect anyone to inconvenience themselves on my behalf.

I’ve been ordered to stay home; however, once or twice a week I’m forced to leave the house. So if you see me out and about in Houston with a ginormous mask affixed to my face, rest assured I am not “ghey.”
Doctor’s orders.

If by Russian Roulette you mean having a 1 in 100 chance of being forced into the game and then having a 1 in a 100 chance of death once you are in the game then sure, just like Russian Roulette.

I had to wear one for fingerprint/background check at the state police, at Costco, at a Bakery and for a CPR class. I mean I guess I didn't HAVE to wear one if I didn't go to those places, but 2 of them were pretty important for my life, I could have ditched ordering from the Bakery and going to Costco.

this is a good question that I would love to have clarified with someone who knows what they are talking about.

I honestly don't understand the aversion to masks. If someone has the 'rona and sneezes on the tomatoes at the grocery store, I'd like him to be wearing a mask.
