be billed for their rescue? They had more than a weeks notice this was coming their way.

If you have the means to leave and don't you should be left to fend for yourself.

If you don't have the means and couldn't get help prior that's a different story.

People have to risk their lives and tons of money/resources to go in and save these loons that refuse to leave.

A rescuer in another event earlier this year died while trying to save a pet for someone that evidently wouldn't leave without the pet.

I think they did this with some mountain climbers who did not accept warnings and had to be rescued.

Some jurisdictions don't allow staff to rescue after certain time or conditions.

Social network not sufficient.

They should know most insurance companies will not cover vehicle damages if they failed to leave an evacuation area.

I agree that if you stay you waive the option of rescue. But if intend to 'fend for yourself' and succeed in doing so, it doesn't make you a loon. It makes you correct and the 'you're gonna die' forecasters wrong.
I've been through 5 hurricanes. We didn't leave for safety. We knew what we were doing.

That's good. Sadly though lots that stay don't fend for themselves, they have to be rescued.

I agree that they shouldn't be rescued. That policy would be fine with me.

BTW, my favorite 'warning of danger' was an interview with a game warden who told the grizzly bear photographer "If you get near them they will kill you and eat you."

The photographer was killed and eaten. No law enforcement personnel were injured.

But you're gonna drag them into some government sponsored whatever to make this official determination? Injury to insult.

Because banks can’t flood and are hurricane proof.

and the bear was executed as well.

it is pathetic that people like that who profess to love animals would put animals in harms way by presenting yourself as a meal.

No

They shouldn't be rescued. If they are too stupid to leave the area when told that conditions are life threatening then they deserve to die.

First responders should not risk their lives for some dumbass.

All fine and good for you. You're in that 50% above the average. What about the other 50%, the well below average? For every intelligent and capable person, there are 2 incompetent dumbasses staying put in an evacuation.

Personally I'm all for allowing "fend for yourself" to be the rule. Let The Darwin Awards fall where they may. We could totally make good use of allowing the incompetents to fall dead in the streets instead of feeding, housing, clothing, them in and out of the prison industrial complex.

I evaced and am now stuck because as always Burgaw flooded and 40 is closed.back home To the coast.

The people that lived on islands or on the ocean that didn’t evacuate; were complete idiots and I think they should have to pay for the rescue. The lady in Wilmington that died because the tree crashed on her and her eight month old baby was most likely fooled by the cat 2 downgrade And as far as I know they were never mandatory ordered to evacuate.

absolutely, if coast guard has to come out and rescue you on the water they send you a bill for doing it

they "should" do the same in these situations, but ......

the only reason they dont is, they figure people lost everything they had at that point so they figure why go after them when everything they own is gone and they have nothing left
