Would you rather it be a federal tax and let them decide how everyone has the same school system or would you rather keep that local?

Talk about missing the point. It’s about interest on mortgages not being taxed.

You are taxed the full amount of the purchase price of the home when you buy it. - it’s sales tax. Not property tax. Are you advocated paying interest on money you’ve A) already paid income tax on, sales tax, plus property tax.

How many times do you think it’s fair to tax the same dollar?

Keep up. A different question is perfectly acceptable that slightly different from the thread topic, such as:

Understand now?

Salt limits deductions on property to just over 40k. It isn’t some ploy to help the rich. The tax code has tons of examples of the government encouraging certain behavior by giving tax breaks. Home ownership, electric vehicles, life insurance and on and on and on get favorable tax treatment.

Generally there is no sales tax on a house.

No I don’t.

I said mortgage interest should be tax deductible. Then I listed several ways the same dollar is being taxed.

Somehow you inferred that a tax on mortgage interest would interrupt vital services (schools, fire, police). Either you conflated property tax and tax on loan payments or just aren’t smart.

No. Why should Silicon Valley billionaires get to reduce their taxable income just because they financed their $25 million house?

Its not provocation. Taxes are paid on that money by the lender, which is income. No reason to tax it on the mayor as well, especially if it can incentive to buy homes

Why would anyone question the rare tax break that regular people can get?

Why would you never question this?

fairtax.org

As far as the economy, are mortgages the only interest bearing loans that are good for the economy? What about interest on loans for home stereos?

Ironically, your support of forcing taxpayers to subsidize other taxpayers ia closer to Communism than anything I have ever posted

If I pay less in income taxes because of the mortgage interest deduction, I am paying for other people’s housing?

Ask RFK/SFP, PowerLessMan, Low-T boy & several other liberals on here, they’ll tell you we don’t deserve to keep any of it, based on whom they support.

When you support the liberal communist movement, the. End game is you own nothing, eat worms and like it!!!

Or off to the re-education camps.

Yeah, when the standard deduction went up a few years ago, it made the mortgage interest deduction inapplicable for most people as they could not itemize as much as they could get with the standard deduction.

This is wrong. And a talking point the media peddled.

The itemization rules did not change. Instead the deduction went up such that many people no longer had a reason to itemize since they got more savings with the increased standard deduction.

It looks like you are saying the same thing he did.

Do you pay property taxes? If so, don't. You will find out real quick who owns your property.
