Should Merica continue to "protect" NATO allies that cut defense spending?

Merica has a huge military. Merica is in a defense treaty with NATO allies. Most NATO allies have cut their defense budgets to dismal levels (cough UK cough). Why should we foot the bill to protect these jacklegs from Ol Vlad and Xi?

No. The only reason Europe has been able to pay for all their silly entitlement programs is because we’ve been their military for the past 70 years. We’ve also paid for all the R&D in virtually every field imaginable. Those frickers have been riding our coattails for long enough.

No, we should also close all our overseas bases and bring the troops home, the best thing for the USA is another world war on someone elses home turf.
The American manufacturing boom of the 40's-60's was due to everyone else blowing each others shite up.

It’s a very complicated issue. I would say we shouldn’t provide support to countries that aren’t close allies and are able but unwilling to spend for their own defense. If the UK, France, etc aren’t willing to pay for their defense, there should be immense public pressure and scrutiny by us and members of their own country.

Our military is ridiculous big compared to the rest of the planet but our weakness is in our distracted and pampered society. We could take on the world straight up but we would lose because Timmy and Suzie wouldn't have their internet service for Instagram.

The UK, Germany and France are all in the top ten in the world in military spending.
We also waste billions upon billions in military spending every year with terrible contracts and projects that are scrapped.

Most NATO countries pay the US through various backdoors. Essentially the US owns Europe and we get many benefits from this arrangement.
Remember the last time European nations handled their own shite? It was called World War 2 and lots of American blood and treasure was spent obtaining the military occupation of western Europe. Which we still have today.
Why give that up?

Build wall. Post military at the border. Round up all illegals in CA that are living in the central valley doing farm work. Send them back to Mexico to farm those same crops back home - where they're supposed to be farmed, and not in the artificial environment created in the central valley that is supposed to be arid.
Tell CA to get fricked. Tell Mexico, "You're welcome"

You could combine the entirety of of all three countries land forces and you'd barely have one full strength army corps. Even if you add in reserves you'd maybe be able to scrape together another Corps sized unit.
If Russia massed their forces and struck west, they'd be in Paris before anyone could do more than lodge a formal complaint at the UN.
