We would have a 2 month window to replace him.
Or is it too risky with Cassidy, Cornyn, Murkowski and Tillis still there?

Can he do it in a manner where his resignation isn't effective until the replacement is confirmed?

If the GOP loses the senate, the GOPe still would not approve Trump's appointment before January. Thune would hold it up out of spite to Trump and the Republican voter.

One of the Biggest things Thomas has done for this country, is to get rid of the Two-Step rule. So many wins for we citizens will come from that.
