This wasn't about dancing or having fun. This was about a village elder or tribal leader maintaining his power.

They should make a movie about this.
Local boy moves to town and wants to sit in a semi circle with girls and clap in unison. But the local preacher won't let them. He then goes to an abandoned warehouse to sit and clap by himself. Finally he convinces the girls to join him and they share a beautiful moment of bliss.
Then in an explosive ending the girls are all tortured and beheaded and the boy and his entire family is murdered.
