Not sure the shut down measurable even slow down the disease, and no... its not possible to stop the disease anytime soon, and maybe never.

- social distancing will have no measurable impact
- technology does not really help, generally speaking
- testing does not really help, although testing at nursing homes could help there though

I do think he means well though, get back to life.

There was no reason (data/evidence) to really shut down things to start with.

I was of his opinion before this whole dumbass lockdown started. Should only have been a lockdown for the elderly and those with serious pre existing conditions. Let the young workforce continue to work and let the virus run its course. Focus the government stimulus and whatever aide toward the elderly and high risk population that would be forced to stay home

Do they still have to stick a probe all the way practically into your brain to test for the CV?

Because it would be lovely if we all could test ourselves and get notified if we have it so we can stay home if we’re one of these asymptomatic people I keep hearing about and the rest of us can go on with life.

The way I read the CDC information, once the virus was out in the wild... even with 100% quarantines the virus will continue to spread.

Nobody is going to get tested every day, and why would someone get tested every day for the flu or the flu+? And just because you might test positives for anti-bodies doesn't mean you're immune, we don't know, and you could possibly be a carrier anyway.

The general population is not at risk and never was. The virus will either burn out, become seasonal i.e. flu.... possibly a vaccine but that might never happen.

The test really doesn't help, the virus can't be stopped at the present time.

- shut downs really don't help
- masks don't really help
- vents really don't help, not really, death sentence for most
- stay at home orders don't help
- testing really doesn't help except to keep the infected away from the elderly sick i.e. nursing homes which they really don't care about anyway
- social distancing doesn't help

I’m leaning toward an opening of the country in the least affected areas and letting the chips fall wherever they may fall.

If you have illness, stay home. Bad heart, be careful. Asthma, wear a mask. If you’re old, stay home and wear a mask.

Just live your life with a new risk factor in play- China virus- it’s like if we learned that asbestos gives you cancer.... oh wait... we did that and we just started avoiding it.

Take personal measures to mitigate the risk. That’s the new world we’re in.

Deal with it

someone want to explain this. Seems like an extraordinarily stupid thing that a lot of people keep parroting. guess doctors and nurses have been wearing these for decades for nothing.

Rational action...but a guarantee for a Trump defeat at the Polls in November. Bodies of old folk and obese young Minority women (Mothers) would be stacked in those trailer trucks by the tens of thousands, as hospitals were overwhelmed due to the fast spread of the highly contagious virus.

Cost>>>>Benefit. Seriously damaged Economy...or Biden (and a rogue Obama, et al) at the helm for the next term. And a guaranteed "fundamental change". Not that Trump's action - muscled by Dem control of the House - isn't essentially the 'fundamental change' that the Dems promote anyway.

The old days are over...they won't be coming back. But that Virus will, in mutated versions...which will wreak havoc on the weak. And that is assuming that the Chi-Coms aren't engineering another more lethal form of bio-weaponry. This current version was very successful in serving their interest (removing Trump/crippling US), whether they intentionally loosed it or not.

Strap in.

How long have you seen the general public wearing them?

We’re talking about this stupid makeshift shite that you see people sporting at the grocery store. 99% of that crap is completely useless.

that's a fair point but anytime someone says masks don't help, they should differentiate what masks they mean.

I see a lot of general public wearing them. I've seen people wearing plastic bottles for masks. Looks stupid but is probably effective, no?

Yes. I was tested Monday and this is the type they used.

Now, let's imagine it was infecting and killing kids from 1-15. Would you still think everyone should go about their lifestyles as if nothing happened?

Amazing how some on this board still don't get it. Nobody claimed that social distancing would "stop" the virus. The goal is to just slow the spread to flatten the curve, avoid overwhelming hospital ICUs, and buy some time until we can do more testing, get a better handle on things, and develop treatments and vaccine.

I agree with your post, but...
quote:

Should only have been a lockdown for the elderly and those with serious pre existing conditions

Without a mass shutdown, this would lead to some serious adverse consequences. If the elderly and people w pre-existing conditions need to shelter in place, they most likely would lose their jobs. Without the shutdown, they would not have the new protections. If the gov't out in some exceptions, you'd see a flood of people with newly discovered pre-existing conditions.

I don't agree with the shutdown, but you can't isolate some without major adverse consequences.

Technology is no way, shape, or form stops the virus

It just ramps up the govt ability to track your movements, under the guise of keeping you a safe distance from an infected person, or the supposed ability to instantly notify you that you have been in contact with one
