Senate to vote on Plan B: Ukraine funding without border security

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) plans to strip the bipartisan border security deal from the emergency defense spending bill, and bring a package funding the war in Ukraine, Israel, the Indo-Pacific region and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and Gaza to the Senate floor Wednesday.
Senators expect the legislation to pass without the border security reforms that were unveiled Sunday and resoundingly rejected by most Senate Republicans.
Schumer still plans to hold a procedural vote on proceeding to the Ukraine and Israel funding package that includes border security reforms. That way, he can give vulnerable Democratic colleagues a chance to vote for it and argue on the campaign trail that they tried to address the crisis at the border.
But Republicans are expected to block that package — and then, Schumer said he will move to Plan B.
“Schumer has told Senate Dems he is planning to put the negotiated supplemental on the floor without the border security piece after the expected failed cloture vote Wednesday,” a Senate Democratic aide said.
“Schumer told members of his caucus and the White House last week that if the Republicans scuttled the bipartisan border and supplemental agreement, he had prepared a plan to use the motion to reconsider to force Republicans to vote on the supplemental without border [reforms,]” the aide added.

Well, at least we know Chucky has his priorities and they aren’t protecting Americans.

Priority is not the border. These people hate you.

So… they couldn’t get Ukraine funding on its own for months, so they tried to tie it to a hit button issue and failed because they fricked THAT up… so they are going back to trying it by itself.
What is the definition of insanity again?

I'm not sure it's possible for the Senate to be more detached from the public than this. They're working for Ukraine. Not US citizens.

The kickbacks from these ukraine bills must be off the charts. It seems all our politicians care about is getting funding for the ukraine. They pack the funding anywhere they can possibly stick it.

They’re working to line their own pockets, not Ukraine. Ukraine just gets to keep a small percentage of the aid.

Dems need something to run on, bill…

I can see some "conservative" senators come out and say, "this bill was so bad with the border provisions but now that the border provisions have been stripped out I can support it."
When this was the plan all alone.
The objective was to fund Ukraine.
The objective is still to fund Ukraine.
The establishment engaged in a battle on the right flank, weakened opposition forces with expendable capital and are now headed directly into weakened opposition...all in a political sense.

These guys run circles around conservatives who just keep on racking up Ls

Problem with this scenario is that funding Ukraine is less popular than the border bill.

Here are the Senators that voted no on aid to Ukraine the first time:
Blackburn (R-TN)
Boozman (R-AR)
Braun (R-IN)
Crapo (R-ID)
Hagerty (R-TN)
Hawley (R-MO)
Lee (R-UT)
Lummis (R-WY)
Marshall (R-KS)
Paul (R-KY)
Tuberville (R-AL)
This was not enough last time - I assume this will pass. Naturally every Dem in the house will support it and certainly enough Republicans. 57 Republicans in the House voted against it last time.
While East Palestine remains polluted, Maui is a wasteland, the border is wide open, hundreds of thousands homeless, crumbling infrastructure (so much for the infrastructure bill), and so on...Ukraine is the chief priority for Congress - that and some fixation on banning "paramilitary" activity.

we simply MUST invest in securing the Ukranian border.

You are not wrong, but the people that manned the ramparts to melt down senators phones and emails the last couple of days are currently tired. Or in this iteration of attempted Ukraine funding that is what the Ukraine Party believes. They will keep pounding on this issue util we relent. They have nothing to lose.

I read something recently that there are Dems worried about getting heat for for showing too much support for Israel. Maybe it gets them off the hook by bunching the aid with Ukraine, I don't know.

Are you saying that the current laws and current funding aren’t enough to secure our border with Mexico?
I think we need to find the wall, but other than the will for the administration to stop the illegals, I believe we have what we need now.

Mike Johnson has to leverage the frick out of the Ukraine Party's strong desire to fund Ukraine going into the the next CR around March 8th.
This is their weakness. Use it against them and get some good legislation passed. Hell make them sign a balanced budget and defund Jack in exchange for Ukraine funding.

Get the part you want in and signed first before you do the part they want. Because what you want will get stripped in committee or vetoed.
