It’s ridiculous that we can’t find a way to make the govt function for $5T a year (2024 revenues) which is $1.5T more than 2019 … when SS and Medicare are only up about $600B since then.

That’s $900B more to pay for “stuff” that’s not Medicare if SS.

tax tips automatically

It's withheld automatically.
But, vast majority of tipped employees aren't claiming enough to have any real tax burden.

GROK says:

quote:

Income tax in the United States began with the Revenue Act of 1861, signed into law on August 5, 1861, to fund the Civil War. It imposed a 3% tax on incomes above $800, but it was never fully implemented and was repealed in 1872. A more permanent federal income tax was established with the 16th Amendment, ratified on February 3, 1913, which gave Congress the power to tax incomes without apportioning it among the states. The first modern income tax law under this amendment was the Revenue Act of 1913, effective March 1, 1913.

But, it's a horrible precedent.

This is why we can’t get any tax relief. Most people won’t support lower taxes unless it’s for themselves.

I think no income tax is a fantastic precedent. Let's expand this to every other form of income.

How about we stop picking winners and losers?

One tax system.
You earn $100k, it doesn't matter your job, how many kids you have etc etc.
One set of tax rates.
No deductions, no credits, no exemptions.

I wish, but when you take out SS and medicare(which are taxed separately).
2023 numbers
Defense budget was over $800B and was 21% of the budget
Interest was $660B and 17%
and Medicaid was $600B and 15.4%

Those are the top 3 expenditures. I think the new plan is for Defense and interest to go up and Medicaid to go down.

There is no reason we need to be spending a trillion dollars on defense. That needs to be cut back significantly along with not reducing the taxes collected until we get the debt to a more manageable state.

Why are you hung up on taxing income?

Income tax is a relatively new concept compared to human history,

I’ll tell you why. Do you pay taxes on gifts? Your Birthday presents etc.

When someone gives me good service, I GIVE them a token of my appreciation. It is a GIFT from me to them.

Good. Break out each individual bill and let them pass on their own merit. Stop bundling crap.
