She was on FB the other day bitching about one Mayoral candidate using a firetruck for campaigning purposes. What she didn't know that it was old vintage firetruck owned by this person's friend and was allowed to use it. The funny part was that her brother-in-law/brother in the Sheriff's Department approved that this candidate could do this on streets in the City of Central.

You gotta admit that using a firetruck is kinda lame. I could see how she would be too stupid to ask her brother about it, who is 2nd in command at the EBRSO. Not that he's bright, either.

I saw that the Central Speaks paper endorsed Dave Freneaux for mayor. I guess all that work Dave did in starting a new paper that would only sing Bodi White and Mac Watt's praises is paying off. The sheer amount of political signs in Central is astounding. People don't realize what a hotbed of politics the town is. Lots of power there for being such a rural and working class area.

Bodi White has never been a congressman. He was in the La. House of Reps, not congress. He got term limited in the HoR so he ran for senate. When he's term limited in the senate he hopes to run for mayor of SG. That's part of his motivation for forming SG.

I thought Bodi White lived in Central?

Why would he want to be mayor of a new city, with few employees, and a tight budget anyway???

All of us here know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I find it hard to believe White aspires to be the mayor of SG. That seems to be a big step down to me.

No more lame than Dave using kid's movie night at BREC parks as a campaign tool.

Dave and that whole bunch are nothing but tools. The "Kingfish" of Central trying to get his buddies on council to approve all of his son's development projects since current council kills every single one he brings forth to plan and zoning board.

Good point, he'll probably leave Central where his political base is, move into SG so he can run for mayor and gain all that political power that goes with the job.

Once again you prove how smart you are. I never would have thought the guy that is so powerful in Central would move away just to be my mayor.

Damn you're good.

It's all so clear to me now! You always have the inside information.

Just like how 9 + 2 - 2 = 11!

You have to give Russian credit, he scooped everybody.

Without his inside info, nobody would know taxes were going up to 11%. The Advocate hasn't had it, NOLA.com hasn't had it, and neither has the BR Business Report.

9-2+2=11. a 40% TAX INCREASE, just so Bodi White can move to SG and become my mayor.

Your math is wrong. It's 9 - 0 + 2 = 11.

He's not going to be mayor or appoint himself to the council, but it is silly to think there aren't people drooling at the black hole that the city's finances will become.

At least with EBR you know where all the contracts for individual services and whatnot are going. With SG there will be a general contractor who will not need to disclose who they give our money to in order to carry out city services. Opening the gate to more corruption doesn't mean that corruption will happen. It's just a moral hazard and theres politicians have proven they won't be able to resist the temptation.

So, you are still claiming an 11% tax rate?

Really? That's not what Russian says, and we all know he's never wrong.

Did you know the EBRPSB writes contracts to individual companies for most if not all their maintenance work and janitorial work?

Did you know that when they did that they saved money?

Did you know the city contracted out garbage pick up a long time ago and got out of the garbage business and saved money?

It has been proven in a lot of instances that privatizing city, and local services can save money and stretch valuable tax dollars.

Can there be corruption in awarding contracts? Certainly, but not any more corruption than you'd see from local governments who award service contracts to lawyers, engineers, architects, etc.

I do agree that people in govt. have to be watched. That is another good reason for term limits. Keeping the status quo breeds familiarity, and that could lead to problems. I'm with you on that.

You're talking about apples and I'm talking about oranges.

You're talking about contracting out specific services, which i have no problem with. What I'm talking about is a blank check to a single contractor (CH2MHill) to act as a middle man so that they can then dole out contracts.

Aramark does the same thing for the school board.

They were hired to take care of everything, and then they subcontract our work depending on what it is.

It's not exactly the same, but it's the same principle.

CH2 was getting overpaid about 1.5-2 million in Central compared to the new group and services seem to be the same or even better. Hell I called about a sewer leaking one time and girl on phone had no idea where the road I was talking about was located and asked if sewer overflow was a bad thing. Granted I ended up having to call EBR because they still handled the sewer.

I heard Central fired their original contractor and replaced him. Was it CH2 that was fired?

You brought up a good point about the sewer system. It is a parishwide entity similar to BREC and the Library in that respect and if SG becomes a city, that would not change.
