Tax break is a handout in this libertarian's world.

How is a tax break a handout?

. what does that have to do with what I posted?

If your talking about tax breaks, those are only "handouts" in proggy world

In the USA we subsidize poor behavior and rhen turn around and tax these people extra on it?

Subsidizing good behavior with tax breaks(you keeping your money) seems more productive

When taxes and regulations become a burden, black markets arise.

I just not sure I can get on board with giving a tax incentive to help with the cost of a Gov’t handout. I would rather cut the handout, honestly but I just know it won’t happen. In a perfect world we would have a completely free market in health insurance without federal mandates as well as state regulation. We could even have foreign competition. Some people would be denied coverage if they get sick and didn’t have existing coverage but it is what it is. Not the most companionate system but it would be better than what we have now.

Who decides what is "good" behavior? The government?

Common sense usually will take care of determining good behavior.

In general, things like non criminal behavior, valuing education and having two parents in the home should be encouraged.

Punishing bad behavior only encourages black market activity.

I wonder if Starbucks will start charging for sugar packets?
I read one article that said Starbucks products are exempt from the sugar tax.

The premise of this conversation is that drinking sugary drinks is bad behavior. Are you really that dense?

Yah, sin taxes in general

Bootlegging cigarettes is serious business in NYC.

Exactly. Your pretense that tax breaks for certain behaviors being decided in some theoretical vacuum of objective goods and bads is nonsense is not an exercise in de facto subsidies is nonsense.

Yet you seem perfectly fine with taking from people via taxation and handing it out to people who make poor decisions. I.e. healthcare payments.

What the frick?

The discussion here is for alternatives to existing policy punishing bad behavior
