NOW — REP. CHU (D): Do you agree with Trump that you don't care about Americans' financial situation?!

SCOTT BESSENT: Who was the president during World War I?

CHU: I don't know

BESSENT: You don't know? [...] Trump does care. He is FUTURE-PROOFING. I can tell you Americans' financial situations would be devastated if Iran got a nuclear weapon, and there was a permanent shutdown of energy out of the Middle East. And I promise you President WOODROW WILSON — who was president during WWI — the Germans did not attack us. He got into that, it was a war of principle, and President Wilson felt the same.

Imagine being a congresswoman and not knowing who was POTUS during WW1.

So the argument is that we have to destabilize the global economy now to prevent Iran from potentially destabilizing it later?

It's a terrible argument all together. Iran hasn't even invaded any of their neighbors. They weren't going to come attack the United States.

I'm not surprised you can't follow the nuance here. He isn't saying that is why we went to war. He is answering a question about the financial ramifications of doing so because he is the treasury secretary and it is his job to field questions such as this.

It's an elite anaolg if you allow yourself to understand the underlying point and the context around the ignorant lady's attempted sound bite.

That is far from the most damning quote in that exchange

I wouldn’t participate in his squirrelly deflection, either.

What annoys me is that the administration seemed more willing to give meaningful/nuanced views of Iran in the lead and very early days of the war. And then when the quagmire showed up it's reverted to basically WMD Iraq messaging and we're not far from "for us or against us."

You mean attack the homeland, right? Because Iran has been attacking the USA on the rest of the globe for decades.

Its incredible how intellectually dishonest TDS makes a person.

I personally think this war was a mistake. But Iran has been wreaking havoc in that part of the world for years.

ETA: LOL at this Dem Congressman who didn’t know who was president during WW I.

It's clear from your extensive knowledge of Iran's future intentions that you should immediately apply for the open position of Director of National Intelligence recently vacated when Tulsi Gabbard resigned. What brilliance you have.

Didn’t Trump give that to the guy who runs Fannie Mae who has zero experience in intelligence?

Sounds like most of this board would be equally qualified
