The 1995-1996 shutdown between President Clinton and Speaker Gingrich lasted 27 days over funding for Medicare, education, the environment, and public health in the 1996 federal budget.

The 2013 shutdown between President Obama and Speaker Boehner lasted 16 days over Obamacare funding.

The 2018-2019 Schumer shutdown is now being done for border security. Schumer, who is my senator, would rather have open borders than open government.

Thank you Mr. President for holding the line. Lets make this the longest shutdown in history.

Didn't the senate pass a bill to keep the government open until February?

I’m a Trump voter and I just can’t figure out his hypocrisy on the shutdown issue.

He's not backing down on a promise to the American people for border security. It's Schumer that's putting us at risk. So Schumer shutdown.

18 days is guaranteed, since Congress won't be back in session until Tuesday afternoon. The House Ds say that they will work on passing a number of individual funding bills to open up parts of the government (Rs did the same during '13). That will probably eat up the remainder of next week.

Dems that participated in discussions over the weekend with the WH say that Trump is unfazed by the shutdown and doesn't care. This could last a while.

If there is no deal next week, then the following week only has 4 day of session before they break from the 18th to the 28th.

What will be funny is everything will go on fine at a 25% reducing in funding, and the big gov types will freak

"If we don't get what we want ... I will shut down the government. And I am proud to shut down the government for border security.... I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I'm not going to blame you for it."

Trump shut it down over border security (the wall funding). Schumer refuses to open the government back up over said wall funding. So now Schumer owns it as the ball remains in his court.

This will play into Dem’s hands as Trump shutting down the gov for longer than anyone ever.

I hope the Senate checks each bill and strips out any pork or other nonsense the Dems tried to pass last week with riders and other bills thrown in there as traps like abortion funding.

Boy, if only Trump didn’t say he’d be happy to own it....

I think the dems are as to blame as trump in this and I’ve been critical of both sides, but he can’t say he’d be proud to own the shutdown and then change history and call it Schumer’s

Interesting Gallup poll. Before Christmas the majority thought Trump caused (not blamed), the shutdown, because he said he would shut it down.

Now the latest poll shows people want the border wall/fence/ditch and blame the dems for not doing it and opening the govt back up.

The longer this drags on the worse the optics for the dems. And pelosi looks like shite with her constiuents homeless waiting on disaster relief.

And to the 800,000 workers seeing their pay delayed, the millions who lost their jobs under obama, and became baristas, say hi.

Gets elected by saying Mexico is going to pay for the wall
Shuts the government down until the U.S. will give him the money to pay for the wall
Everyone here praises him for "standing his ground"

I... just don't get it.
