During a cross-country trip in June, Jefferson County Public Schools “assigned a fifth-grade girl to sleep in the same bed with a fifth-grade boy who identifies as transgender without notifying the girl or her parents,” according to a demand letter sent to the system and Superintendent Tracy Dorland by Alliance Defending Freedom.

quote:

The Waileses say their daughter went on a school-sponsored field trip to Philadelphia and Washington with the assurances from the JCPS that boys and girls would be roomed on different floors.

According to the ADF letter, chaperones were to make it known that boys would not be allowed to visit the girls’ floor and vice versa. Serena Wailes was on the trip with her daughter, but she was not a chaperone.

The Wailes’ daughter, identified as “D.W.,” was assigned to a room with three other students, the letter said. Two of the students were girls from her school. The third was a boy who identified as a girl and attended a different school. The boy was identified as “K.E.M.” in the letter.

quote:

D.W. and K.E.M. were assigned to the same bed, according to the letter. When the students were in their room together that evening, K.E.M. told the girls he was a boy who identified as a girl.

That's fricked up.

Seems weird that kids from different schools would be sleeping together in the first place, but the fact the other school didn't disclose that one of their "girls" was actually a boy makes it more their fault

Pull your children from public schools. Destroy the government-NEA complex.

Reminds me of our 8th grade field trip to DC. Charter bus took the class and drove well into the night before reaching the hotel. While the rooms were seperate the bus was not.

Chaperones after dark would walk to back of bus only to find the girls sitting in our laps under blankets while we played poker with the money our parents gave us for the trip. Good times

And the hotel had HBO so we would stay up late to get the “good shows.” Quite a few of us would disappear to the bathroom for 20 min to “take a shite” after a “good show” came on

I'm proud to say that HBO and Miss Brooke Shields in particular taught me how to, uh, do something that has become a lifelong pastime. Conan the Barbarian was a favorite as well. And there was one with Nastassja Kinski, Cat People, maybe?

OK, Zach raises hand. Happened to 10 y.o. me when I was put to bed with my 18 y.o. cousin (very pretty) during a hurricane housing shift. I didn't dare move and I didn't get any sleep.

So you put the transgender boy in the girls room, and the other girls parents lawyer up.

You put the transgender boy in the boys room, and the transgender's parents lawyer up.

You put the kid in their own room, and all the other kids get upset about someone having their own room.

The school is in a no-win situation here.

What a mess.

If I understand correctly, the transgender kid was from a different school. So to start with, have that kid room with kids from his own school who he knows and perhaps whose parents know. The transgender kid's school didn't even tell the chaperones from the girl's school. Neither the teacher nor the principal were aware ahead of time that the kid was transgender and had to suddenly make decisions on the fly about a situation they were blindsided with.

Makes me wonder what the fallout of putting the kid with the mentally ill parents in his own room

This was the option with the least problems. First of all, most middle school kids kids don't want to be alone...they want to room with friends. If another kid asks why, don't tell them. When you start lying, you just create more problems.

The TG parents still may bitch because the wouldn't get a chance to room with other kids and might feel ostracized. But that shouldn't be the school's problems. The parents created this mess.

Also, there may not have been another room available.

Not a good option either, but the lesser of three bad options.
