That would be an epic, public troll...I don't buy it, he's a true believer.

Ever noticed how much landlords blow? They don't really do anything to earn their money. They just claim ownership of buildings and charge people who actually work for a living the majority of our incomes for the privilege of staying in boxes that these owners often didn't build and rarely if ever improve. In a few years, my landlord will probably sell my building to another landlord and make off with the appreciated value of the land s/he also claims to own – which won't even get taxed, as long as s/he ploughs it right back into more real estate. Think about how stupid that is. The value of the land has nothing to do with my idle, remote landlord; it reflects the nearby parks and subways and shops, which I have access to thanks to the community and the public. So why don't the community and the public derive the value and put it toward uses that benefit everyone? Because capitalism, is why. The most mainstream way of flipping the script is a simple land-value tax. By targeting wealthy real estate owners and their free rides, we can fight inequality and poverty directly, make disastrous asset price bubbles impossible and curb Wall Street's hideous bloat. There are cooler ideas out there, too: Municipalities themselves can be big-time landowners, and groups can even create large-scale community land trusts so that the land is held in common. In any case, we have to stop letting rich people pretend they privately own what nature provided everyone.
this has got to be a joke right? is this real life? these fricking "writers" for rolling stone are totally delusional and slightly retarded and possibly 85 percent brain dead. How the frick do they think these landlords got the buildings? someone gave it to them? no they worked for it and bought the building. im just in awe at the stupidity of these morons

And after the millennial's read those five reforms, they can follow it up by reading The Road to Serfdom

I minored in theatre for a semester... after realizing that it was nothing but a liberal hivemind and circle jerk I switched my minor.
Heard plenty of stories about how when you start out in the theatre world, you have to slave away before you can do anything meaningful.
No wonder so many theatre majors/grads are socialists, because their profession is worthless lave labor unless you make it big on Broadway.

Doesn't it seem harsh to have a system that does a pretty shitty job at providing money to people?

Definitely mainstream positions.

Rolling Stone is a liberal rag through and through. Just as far left as MSNBC.

Thats actually an insult to liberals. Its for clueless rich college or high school kids. While I disagree wildly with their views, Mother Jones wipes its arse with the puerile bullshite that is RS.

Why am I not surprised RS reflects the attitudes of ignorant 20 year old who have yet to have any real responsibilities?
We own a single rental unit. The suggestion that I've done nothing to earn the income is absurd. I've put uncountable number of personal hours into improving and maintaining the place, not to mention paying others to work on it. Thankfully the tenants in the place now are great and pay the rent on time, the last tenants I have to squeeze the rent out of them and its a pain in the arse.
FU RS children. If you don't like renting buy. If you want to rent but the market doesn't provide a low enough rate, try a Section 8 landlord. Its not my job to take a loss so you can have extra money to blow on alcohol.

There are just as many ignorant 20 year olds who don't think landlords provide a valuable function as there are ignorant 20 year olds who think everything would be just fine if government went away.

Tangential...
but I wanna brag about the Alabama clause I stuck into the lease. We live in the unit next door, and Bammer fans are more and more everyday intruding into this city - so I had to do something to protect ourselves.
Note the use of "colors" - I've even protected us against the thinly veiled bamma support expressed by excessive crimson decoration on the exterior.

So basically slavery? You are forced to work (may or may not be against your will) just instead of food and housing you get money which you then spend on food and housing.
