Ok #1 just because someone doesn't agree with your opinion that doesn't make them stupid, and #2 I think this idea that just because someone becomes famous they suddenly have a responsibility to not express their political options whenever THEY deem it be appropriate is completely asinine and yes it is a form of political correctness that you're pushing.

#1 - Lots of stupid people disagree with me. Lots of them are probably in the entertainment industry. But nowhere did I call them stupid for disagreeing with me. I called them stupid because most of them are really stupid.

#2 - Again, it's not the fricking argument. This is why arguing with liberals sucks, because it's all emotional ranting instead of any competently constructed retort.

Where did I say they have a responsibility not to express their opinion when/because they got famous? I didn't. My belief is that it's inappropriate to use your loyal audience as a built-in recipient of your political beliefs if they're not paying to hear your political beliefs. I'm not promoting censorship or the repression of any political opinions, you dolt.

BTW, genius, you just told me my opinion was asinine, which is a form of political correctness. All opinions are appropriate. Stop being such a snowflake.

No chance this chart is reality. The outcry over Tom Brady simply having a hat was far louder than the outcry over Kaepernick trying to extend his career.

ETA: Did you see the outcry over Lady Gaga not mentioning politics at all? Maybe we should add the numbers of people from both sides who are offended when athletes DON'T make a political statement, at all, that each side agrees with. Liberals apparently hate that.

That is why my general response in any thread where a celebrity gives their opinion on anything right or left, I post:

"Who cares. The clowns are there to dance for my entertainment."

And then I don't revisit the thread.

Well you seem to be in the minority of today's republicans.

When conservatives stop listening to bullshite opinions and stop consuming their products, they are accused of being PC police or whatever bullshite. Now, we all know that the left doesn't know what terms mean, so they say whatever, but the point is, conservatives can't win in this type of shell game.
Precisely why I'm discouraging conservatives from playing the pussy "offended" game. If you're offended, you don't get to criticize others for being offended.

Do you think this board would praise or denigrate an entertainer who spoke against Obama? Easier yes or no question.

This board? No.

Now if I go to a Toby Keith concert, I think it's absurd to cry about him being anti-Obama. Same for if I went to an REM concert.

At some point people know the score and can make up their minds. Similarly, at that point, I don't put much fault on artists for political ranting because people know what they're getting.

Yet, they don't understand that themselves. Their smugness far outstrips Scruffy's little saying. The jester's greatest folly is believing that the King keeping him around elevates him to King.

Also not true.

They are Americans who don't live within normal society who's opinions are given unearned weight, thus, in the eyes of the media and their fans, they are worth more to society than others.

Their opinions are worth as much as any other random stranger, and I treat them as such.

Their fans or whatever.

I just think it's funny that half this thread thinks it's inappropriate for entertainers to express their opinions because no one cares. The other half things it's inappropriate for entertainers to express their opinions because people care too much and they sway public opinion.

So, is a hat sitting in a locker deemed an "athlete making a political statement"? I'm seriously trying to figure out what we're even talking about here. I see lots of references to Kapernick, but outside of that silliness, I'm seriously not aware of a lot of "athletes making political statements." Is there a flip side to him? Who?

We are all quite different. We have many different roles to fill, different levels of capability and influence, different levels of earned authority in regards to how our opinions are taken.

All animals are equal, dear friend, but some are more equal than others. This is immutable.

I'm not going to be offended or aghast when an entertainer express political opinions different than my own, but that doesn't mean I lend them equal respect in that particular sector towards someone I regard as an actual informed authority.

where did I accuse you of supporting censorship?

You say it's inappropriate for them to express their views, which I interpreted as you saying they had a responsibility to not express their views. That doesn't sound like much of a leap to me but if you can explain to me why it is I'm happy to listen.
