I would not teach kids unless I literally had to. My previous gf taught challenged middle schoolers. Not trying to use a wrong term but I’m unsure. There was one or two that Down syndrome are something very similar. They don’t know their own strength and scared my girl a couple of times.

Would I put it in the same sentence as military? No, but I wouldn’t do it. Not for the pay. Hell no!!

So you don't believe people should be thanked for the work they do? Only members of the armed forces provide any service worth being thanked for?

That just seems rude. It takes people doing all the roles in a society in order for it to function properly.

When did teaching kids their ABC's become the equivalent of storming Omaha beach?

That teacher probably has ptsd

u mad bro?

Did someone not thank you for your service?

It's cool and all but after a while it gets patronizing.

The worst was one dude who wanted to buy me a beer and talk my ear off about how he almost joined while I'm trying to drink beer and enjoy a live band.

I'm a teacher. I have a son in the military.

I do not consider myself to be someone who should be thanked for my "service". I have an important job, sure. But I can quit any time I want to, call in sick if I need to, be home with my family every day for dinner and weekends off...it's nice to be thanked for my hard work but I would not want someone thanking me for my service. Military people, on the other hand, basically sign their life away when they enlist. Their life is not their own especially throughout training time. Your pay is next to nothing. You cannot just quit if you don't like it. You may or may not get to go home for holidays. You may get shot or blown up or captured. You may be killed. These people deserve to be thanked for their "service".

The thing that REALLLLLLLLY ticks me off though is when someone like Nancy Pelosi is referred to as a "PUBLIC SERVANT." Public servant, my a$$.

Ok. So there is more commitment to military service. Totally agreed. It doesn't mean that they're the only service I'm supposed to be thankful for. That's silly.

No, what's silly is, "thanking someone for their service" that's not in the military. It cheapens it. I absolutely hate it when some politician states "I served in Congress for xxx years." Yeah, you served alright! Served yourself!

Well for private companies sure.
So private school teachers, who put out a much better product, isn't worthy since they don't work for the government? Should I thank the garbage man for his service, if the city provides it, but not the garbage man if I live outside the city limits and hire a company to collect my trash?

The point is, if you go around thanking every public employee for their "service", it cheapens it.

I hate that shite, regardless if the person has an R or a D, behind their name! Served, my arse! Self-served is more like it.

Oh get over it. A teacher is providing a service to our community. And it's a desperately needed one

It would be different if they did a good job. Broadly speaking, our schools are an abortion and teachers are #2 on the list of why.

In some public school classrooms this would be a perfectly appropriate way of ending a communication with the teacher.

It's even worse. Good example is this guy on...well was on Twitter known as David Weissman.

Mr. Weismann describes himself as a combat veteran who was a republican and supported Trump then became a democrat. He got a blue tick and fed off his newfound attention.

The guy is a piece of shite who saddled his wife with debt and left her alone to take care of three kids, one severely disabled. He didn't even buy his daughter a new wheelchair when she needed it. He was a chaplains assistant who did deploy but c'mon, everyone knows a chaplains assistant isn't going outside the wire. Not just that he was booted out of the national guard for poor physical standards.

The dude reveled in being thanked for his service by TDS affected idiots on social media. In reality he's a piece of shite human being. He was never a republican, only used it to promote himself with the right then does a 180 and used that to say he's a "recovering republican" to play the left on Twitter.

They’ll be adding “comrade” to the end of that statement soon.

Teachers are so used to having their behinds smooched that they can't handle when someone speaks truth.

You're an oblivious, air-head who wouldn't last a week teaching school.

Do you think that teachers during Covid who had to conduct zoom classes for their stay at home students and, at the same time, conduct live classes for students in their classes who came to school, and prepare separate lesson plans for each group every day, were having their behinds smooched?

What a complete jackass.

No. But they should get some modicom of recognition for their efforts instead of having ignorant assholes talk about them having their behinds smooched.

In all likelihood, this is a standard sign-off phrase for this reporter in interviews like this. Or maybe he/she blanked out and couldn’t think of anything better. If there was a link to the interview, could provide insight.

I'm more likely to thank the kid stocking the grocery store shelves, during the pandemic, when they closed the schools.

Why? The teacher has most likely done more good for their local community than your standard military grunt.
