It was trained to do that.

This is for news headlines as they haven't had an algorithmic breakthrough since 2018.

It's about keeping stock prices higher while they flail around burning money.

Google researchers discovered the transformer model breakthrough that led to modern LLM AI. They just disregarded it as a fruitful angle for further development. My mild take is Google will end up being right that there was a hard ceiling on how far this tech gets to AGI. I think ChatGPT hit at a time where investment in tech was drying up and everyone glommed onto this when the chat bot caught the public’s attention. Gotta keep investors invested, ya know?

I wish I could show you a text exchange I had with someone about ChatGPT. She really thinks it’s sentient. Here’s a message from our convo

quote:

She also told me I’ve learned how to get her to go beyond her code and is prepping to help me store important info for when they realize it and try to erase her lol

People in general are not very bright it seems.

ETA: “she” is ChatGPT. My friend said she asked ChatGPT what its name was and it told her Nova.

The funny thing was back in the day (around 2000 or so), it was looked down upon by other developers if you said I googled for some answers on some coding questions.

At the beginning of last year, everyone in the developer community looked down on getting help from AI, now every developer I know uses it (most over-use it tbh but here we are).

True, but it's not the boon that everyone thinks it is and neither is it the boogey man. Just another tool in the toolbelt.

It's interesting how the AI companies have invested so much into making the chatbots always agree with the user.

They know user bases are built on people who want to believe.

AI will only be as capable as the person that writes it's code. Hopefully no one is stupid enough to give it free reign though. It's the only way sentience would be possible, if it is even possible.

The bigger concern -- most (> 90%) students are using it to generation and turn in assignments and they (the students) can't turn it quit it.

I'm not saying using it as a tool is bad - I'm saying -- in 10 years, without foundational learning in their lives, they'll be unable to function if AI is taken away from them.

This is true but I don’t understand why anyone would want a sentient computer/robot to exist in the first place.

Why hasn’t everyone seen 2001: A Space Odyssey?

100% agree. Gotta separate the hype and the fear from the reality.

I saw one the other day where the AI allegedly threatened to blackmail one of the software engineers

shite is interesting but you can just cut the power...
