LINK

this is Dave's redistricting app, and you can make your own maps for Congress, our state Senate, and our state house as well as every other state.

you also have tools to analyze your maps and every precinct in the state

Are minority-majority districts still required?

If so, then you have to carve out about half the goddamn state between BR and NOLA to get it.

If not, you may end up with some purple districts that may end up being true toss-ups.

I'd like to see EBR + LP and AP as a district if possible

I think the Supreme Court actually struck those down after the last census

Does it matter if we elect cats like Cassiday?

I mean, really?

Heuristic #1 — Majority-minority VAP
A VRA district is not legally required unless the relevant minority group can make up 50% or more of the district’s voting-age population (VAP).¹ More specifically, the question is whether the relevant minority can constitute more than 50% of the citizen voting-age population (CVAP). In Hispanic areas, significant differences can exist between VAP and CVAP. DRA makes it possible to get CVAP data as well as VAP.²

looking at the map, it looks like 28 R and 11 D with the current Senate districts. The goal is two more R Senate seats, which can probably be accomplished by wiping away District 24 around Opelousas and District 29 snaking from Alexandria to Ruston, districts that are about 55% Black, meaning you can combine them with districts that are 60-80% White and still not be likely to lose them. Districts that are expected to be blowouts are called "vote sinks" and hurt the chances of winning other districts by more narrow margins.

For the state House, you have 32 D seats and 73 that should be R. The most flippable D seats are the current 96 based in St Martinville and New Iberia (49% Black), 40 in Opelousas (56% Black), and 11 in Ruston, Haynesville, and Homer (60% Black but was only 55% D based on I believe one of the Trump elections. Think Karl Malone country). The state House already is pretty gerrymandered in that I thought there could be more seats to flip, but most of the D seats are big margins (though they are SURROUNDED by >70% R seats that could probably still absorb them all)

it should be a mantra of the conservatives in LA. 80-25 and 30-9 (both over 75%) should be goals of the next set of maps.

Maybe Edwards makes a deal where he will just sign whatever the GOP draws for the state leg if they send him a congressional map with 2 VRA districts?

IIRC, that portion of VRA was abandoned by the courts.

So districts can match natural geographic lines.

John Stefanski will sell out the repukes b/c he's one of the fraudsters that made a deal w/ JBE and the black caucus to get into a leadership role. This guy has NO business heading this committee, or any committee, but he is going to screw conservatives and allow both chambers to never achieve a super majority. He wants to run for AG, the guy is a snake in the grass RINO POS !

Partisan gerrymandering needs to be outlawed. Louisiana ought to use a computer and demographers to create the most geographically compact districts possible. Bogalusa and Ruston in the same Congressional district? It is ridiculous.

It's been going on since 1812 so not sure it's being outlawed will happen any time soon.

Exactly!

I'll wait and see what his map looks like, because that's what it's going to be.

What is the point? The Republicans of this State have proven they are less than useless.
