Red and Blue didn't define Republican and Democrat until the 2000 election.

From NBC's 1988 election coverage, red = Democrat and blue = Republican.
Each network and news organization chose their own graphics, there was no standardization. The 2000 race between Bush and Gore wasn't decided until December 12th, a full month after election date. During that time all the news organizations had daily coverage of the election. To avoid confusion, each adopted red for Republican and blue for Democrat. I don't think there was an edict or official declaration of what had to be used, I'm guessing it was organic. That's not something I know. Since then, Red and Blue have now taken on a political meaning. There's always been a clear distinction between conservative and liberal, but it was not officially color-coded red and blue.

You have the timing right but the story wrong. Red was always the color of the left, and it still is in the rest of the world. Blue was determined, by psychologists’ studies, to better build trust with viewers, so the media, being red bastards, chose blue for democrats even though red was their color before.

I’ve noticed anywhere other than than the US, blue is the color for the right of center party.

I've been talking about this permanent color change for a few years now. Yes, the Dims were frequently the Red color and Red was associated with communism, but just like the old Dim switcharoo in the 60's from the party of Jim Crow to the party of freedom and equality, they did the same thing with switching from communist Red to true Blue. You have to tip your cap to the Democratic Socialists, they laid their Socialist/Marxist ideology on a foundation of deception and lies and they've gotten away with it for the most part.

Commie red.
Some brave network needs to put it right and change it back.

NBC Producers Chose to make Democrats Blue because they want to avoid the Communist connection with red with American Democrats
All across the world, blue is the color for the Conservative Party
Except here, because media didnt want the connection made

quote:Red has represented communism since the French revolution. I also agree on the color psychology of red and blue, and have no doubt the liberals in the media chose accordingly. I thought my post was too long already so I left that part out of it. I was clearing up the confusion of those questioning why red and blue have flipped meanings in the US and South America.
Red was always the color of the left,

So, red has represented communism since 50 years before it was formulated?

Easy there are some on this board that remember when the media not only said red and blue but also light gray and dark gray if you are watching on a black and white TV set.
You can go back even further when there were no fancy graphics just a mechanical tote board.

Anybody with a brain can see that the Jacobins were communist even if the term was not in vogue yet.
