In essence, we entered into World War II because of global petroleum politics. Hmm....

There is no plausible scenario that includes the US staying out of WW2. We were going in at some point. If it wasn’t the Japanese need for oil, it would have eventually been something else.

Bruh... that one was sort of warranted. And Congress declared war. The WWII declarations were the last formal war declarations by the U.S. Fun fact: the vote to declare war on Japan was 82-0 in the Senate and 388-1 in the House. The only person to vote against declaring war on Japan was a woman who said if she couldn't go to war she wasn't going to send anyone else. She never held another elected office.

Jeannette Rankin, the first woman to serve in Congress (and the first to hold any Federal office) and was elected prior to suffrage. She voted against U.S. entry into WWI, as well, but she wasn't alone in that vote.

God bless her for consistency and adherence to principles, however misguided those things might have been in December 1941.

I think FDR gets a pass though

How? His oil embargo against Japan flipped them from being an ally to joining the axis. If FDR hadn’t cut them off from oil and rubber, they wouldn’t have needed to invade American, Japanese or British colonies in Southeast Asia. Japan would have instead focused on China and likely wiped out the communists.

He also ignored multiple reports of an imminent attack on Pearl Harbor and refused advice to disperse the fleet.

Monkeywerx SITREP from yesterday is alarming, to say the least.

For those not familiar he is in TEXAS and follows Military flight activity routinely and normally. Calls Biden "flashbang", for some reason.

Massive US military Flight and Naval activity currently happening. Very busy C-117 refuelers coming back and forth. Lots more.

He has an interesting bit of info in the beginning, but after that, it starts getting real.

We be going to war. Maybe even break out the draft. "BOTH" gender/sexes, this time. No HS Diploma needed.

There is a 0% chance that Japan could have ever defeated and occupied China in a way sustainable enough to end the CCP. Simply not possible.

The prospect is as ludicrous as saying Germany could have fully defeated Russia/USSR. It was never actually possible—the benefit of hindsight shows us that.

Right wing death squads. Guerilla attacks. Military assassinations. Infrastructure attacks. Total civil war.

You'll get to see a true, real anti war movement for the first time ever. It's not gonna be mtv approved, with Green Day rocking against Bush

I'm thinking the military types in the US and NATO believe we better be preparing for a war now. Russia may want to war and we have to be ready to respond. Imagine how the Russian's will do when NATO aircraft are engaged in conflict?

Have you cut a check out of your personal account and sent it to Ukraine yet like I told you since you're so into the war. If you feel so strongly go set up a Go Fund me account and leave American tax dollars in America!!

By draining the gas reserves with no realistic shot at refilling them, kicking out the veteran troops that didn’t get the jab, destroying the economy, and dividing the country….

I get that we have to lower expectations with Biden but damn.

Not really, the US cut off oil to Japan not long before Pearl Harbor. It may have been the proximate cause, but the Japanese had been at war since at least 1931 in China. They wanted to push the British Empire, the Dutch and the US out of the Pacific. Japan was a militaristic society and wanted to expand its influence. The US might have some part in the immediate run up, but a clash with Japan was inevitable.

The war in Europe had nothing to do with oil. The Germans resented the Versailles Treaty because of the sole guilt for the war and military restrictions and reparations. Some historians consider WWII in Europe to have been a continuation of WWI. The US was inevitably going to be drawn in. Also, Germany declared war on the US after Pearl Harbor.
