Their gov is only like that because we ran an abysmal candidate. The GOP loses far too many elections from running candidates with checkered pasts and clearly won’t overcome it.

Every cycle seems to have at least one. Even Bama had a democrat as a senator not long ago…

They aren’t. But being anti-tax != open borders. Those are two different things.

Well there we have it. Rand Paul is not really a conservative.

Since you do, Trump negotiating all of these 'great trade deals' has to be infuritating to you. Every trade deal we negotiate KEEP MANFACTURING OVERSEAS. IT PUTS OUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AT RISK. IT BREAKS TRUMP'S PROMISE AND GOES AGAINST EVERYTHING YOU POSTED.
Its fascinating. Trump hated NAFTA so much he renegotiated it. Now (depending on the day) the goal is reciprocal no tariffs. Essentially NAFTA for all countries. And the clapping seals support that.

Definately pitching Rand overboard will lead to better candidates.

Everyone on this thread who is anti-tariff should just admit they are more worried about their 401k than the health of this country.

Tell me again about all the conservatives that continually vote to approve the Patriot Act, including Trump.

Rand is wrong on tariffs, imo, but is far more conservative then the rest on pretty much everything else.

“we’re postponing the tariffs to give manufacturers time to adjust”

The admin is all over the place. I’m willing to bet you cannot coherently articulate this admins strategy either.

Exactly. We need more Kevin McCarthys and Mike Johnson’s.

Would this stop it though? Trump has demonstrated he’s going to do what he wants either way.

Everyone who’s pro-tariff on this thread should admit they want to destroy the dollar’s value and want a return to the stagflation of the 1970s Carter administration.

Where were you during the Biden admin? Oh that’s right you were more worried about getting someone rather than Trump elected than worry about tariffs that were used by biden and other countries. But now you’re concerned and outraged.

Sure I can. Trump's goal is to realign trade. His method is to wake up our trade partners using our purchasing power. In doing so, he forces them to the table to make bilateral deals that are more favorable to the USA. When they make a move to the table to negotiate, Trump does his part in good faith while a deal is being worked out. If you don;t work it out, then that good faith is gone.

Within that process is the goal of bringing in jobs to the USA and the critical needs to be made here.

It's really not that hard to understand.

I want us to provide for our own necessities, even if it costs more to make them at home. I want' us to balance our trade instead of shipping more and more dollars offshore, because it puts the US dollar and the country at risk.

It's a matter of survival. And believe it or not, it's going to happen anyway because the rest of the world doesn't have infinite capacity or desire to provide for our excess consumption. Sooner or later they'll choose an opportune time and cut the US off.

Not sure what you mean by any of that. I want the US to fix our budget deficits and our trade deficits. Tariffs aren't the best way to bring industry back, but they do have a role to play. If the Congress and the judiciary fight every attempt to fix our fiscal affairs at home, every attempt to lower costs and regulation, then tariffs are a brute force way to bring production of more essential goods back home. Either do that or the US run as a sovereign country is headed for a rough end.

Yeah, I'm disenfranchised with Rand at this point. For the most part he has always said a lot of things that I actually agree with but, when you look at the overall body of his accomplishments, it's basically been a bunch of grandstanding when he could have actually done something good- and then a bunch of support for the swamp when he had a golden opportunity to break them.

Look at the cast of characters in this very thread that are lining up to defend Rand, and that's all you need to know. Rand and the overwhelming majority of the Establishment GOPe are and have been very effective protectors of the Etatist Kleptocracy for decades.
