Overall you're paying attention to only the the reporting that fits your narrative, which is what you argued he was doing. Reality is there is as much evidence that masks have little effect as there is that they're effective. The reason for this is because so-called science is now as hopelessly political as everything else. But considering what we've seen the last 12 or so months, it's hard to conclude that masks, particularly as worn by typical Americans, has done much of anything regarding this virus.

The only thing we know for sure is that CDC said they would not track the flu this last winter.
Only idiots would claim the lack of flu data means the flu didn't happen this last year.

Stay away from people, wash your hands, don't touch your face.
These and not going to work or out with the slightest sniffle probably helped more than anything. All the stats are probably crap. I just go on what I see in community.
As far as masks, there have be several studies that say cloth masks are crap. Duke screwed up in the beginning and did a pretty good study that showed the comparisons.
I question if the masks are effective purely because the guideline writers, CDC, NIH, states, counties, cities rarely gave any guidance on mask materials to wear and how to wear masks. They should have been drilling us on how to wear masks if masks were really the save all. How many of you wear ear plugs in a work setting? How many OSHA videos have you watched for proper insertion? Earplugs are crap if you don't put them in right.
Two masks was probably the best advise they came up with but they backed into it. Most people I see with 2 masks have a cloth mask over a surgical mask. The cloth mask does nothing but make the surgical mask fit better.
