They were called worse.

They were called this in historical documents.

As long as you are quoting historical documents or writings, tough shite to the snowflakes.

The word carries negative connotations and you've been asked not to use it.

Explain why you should use a word that is inappropriate?

How does the word carry a negative connotation? Mainly because of the last 10 years? Listen to the players who played in the league, listen to people who covered the league, listen to the people who talk about the league. There is nothing actually negative about the word or the way it is used.
People just like to make things about themselves. Satchel Paige would throw at your head

So if I call your wife a c-nt you would be ok? There's nothing negative about that word or the way it is used?

Actually, there is a 100% difference, one references to genitalia while the other is one's skin color. So by calling my wife a count you are using it completely out of context and in a vulgar and disrespectful way

If there had been a United C-nt College Fund, A C-nt League, National League on Urban Conditions Among C-nts, or if C-nt meant woman in Spanish then we could be ok with that.

I could settle this whole question in one session, but the PC police would demand that I be banned. Ya' see, I actually lived through all this crap from the very beginning of integration in the state. I was called "token whitey" by some locals and "n---- teacher" by other more hateful and ignorant sorts. Ya' see, I was the first and sole white teacher in this previously all black school. Everyone else in the school in 1969 was of the negro race, from the principal on down to the janitor. I was the token whitey because federal judges ruled against "freedom of choice" and school boards were forced to put at least one white teacher in all schools...after 2 years I ran for school board and was defeated because the KKK banned against me an bought off the black preachers in the parish; so I lost by 217 votes....oh, how I wish I could tell the whole story and educate this site once and for all about this slavery and race subject. Yes, I'm an expert in this matter! The ignorance on this subject is painful for me to read over and over from the uninformed.

That is just crazy. The word 'negro' simply means black in spanish. The Negro League existed and calling it that in writings about the history of it does not suggest racism by the person teaching about it.

I'll try to stay out of trouble. The two oldest institutions are slavery and prostitution. All one has to do is go look up documentaries on the web done by social anthropologists who spent their lives studying our primate brothers and sisters. When a troop of monkeys finds an invading monkey into their territory, the alpha male springs into action and the troop surround the intruder and the dominant male begins to tear it's body apart to eat. Immediately the females begin presenting their sex organ to the meat holder in a swap for some meat. Sound familiar:sex for money/meat. Males have always used their currency to buy sex. So much for prostitution!
Slavery: Tribes have been fighting forever over territorial rights , no different than from the animals. When these tribes go to war, the spoils go to the winner. This has gone on all over the globe on every continent within all races(not just in Africa). When I was living in Guatemala I read some of the original texts about how the Spaniards conquered the natives. The former stole their valuables, took their women to breed with, took males into slavery...able-bodied men to do labor and the "lady boys" for other duties.
In Africa, tribal chieftans would sell their conquered enemies to other black traders or to white slave traders. If you are interested in the New Orleans slave trade, you will find it interesting as to were the dominant ethnic groups dealing in slavery. And the same ethnic group also owned and captained these ships. My Anglo ancestors were not the dominant group. That's all I will say now.

If it's exactly as you described it's nothing to lose one's job over.
But if doing so is a constant bother on your conscious then plan for a different plan.

When you take a job with an institution, you sell your soul or you leave. I left! And my soul is still intact!

It isn't a bother on my conscious as much it bothers me we've regressed this far as a society that ever certain words that are honored by those who actually endured them are considered hateful by those who have no fricking cluem
