Negro is a word that should only be used in its historical context and with primary sources and titles.

2019 and the giant vaginas don't want us to use words.

Because?

"Melanistic" is the acceptable word

Am I to take this to mean, for example, if you were reading the book "To Kill a Mockingbird" in class that you would need to not use words actually in the text?
Surely that's not what we're saying here. Right?

So to update, I've been allowed to use the term. Essentially because it was called the Negro Leagues and the people who played in still refer to it as such and find it an honor. However, if a complaint comes we have to edit the word negro from the book

Yes, if a complaint comes we have to call it the colored leagues or African-American league

am I wrong for believing there is nothing wrong with the word "negro"?
I hear it used by my black customers all the time. I think because it is close to the n word that maybe I would ask the class which they prefer. Negro that is in the history book or Black people. I mean the proper word has changed a few times in the last 50 years. African American is too long to say, so I use Black people. My customers are cool with that. If respectfully used, most terms are proper.

Wow. That's...really shocking to me. I hope a complaint comes so former members of the Negro Leagues can come to your defense.

Well people have bastardized words for years, look at "frick" "bitch" "retard" "gay" etc we've turned them from one meaning into another

Yes you are right. Now the terms used to describe white people has not really changed that much. We are still called Whitey, Cracker, Honky and sometimes just plain old White Mutha Fuka. But those terms have been around for years and I suspect they will be around for generations to come.

I heard a student use the word "frick" before and I asked them if they knew what it meant. They did not so I told them it meant to plow a field (one of the many early meanings) and told them they just told another student they wanted to plow his field

Stop teaching at a public school

Historical writing should not be changed to avoid offending the easily offended.
'Bastard' was a perfectly acceptable term for a child born out of wedlock.
'Idiot', 'Moron' and 'Imbecile' were medical terms for degrees of low mental development.
'Nazi' was only used to describe a German political party.

It depends if that's the hill you want to die on. I agree with you that giving words like this power they don't deserve is ultimately self defeating. If I were a teacher, I would struggle with biting my tongue and playing by their rules. But if someone didn't care? Just play by the rules. To each his own.
