This.
They were expecting to go fast. That failed. Hence, negotiations.
What most others have said in this thread is true too.

Not sure what coverage you’re seeing. I’ve seen plenty of Russian mechanized forces, including main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and self propelled artillery.

I haven't been keeping up but are they using field artillery? I saw some missile strikes but full-on bombardments

It would appear Russia is very overrated. Without AirPower they are going to fail. It appears Somone has deceived Putin into thinking he could take and control Ukraine with tanks alone.

I’ve seen both Russian towed and self-propelled artillery in the coverage I’ve watched.

If they're using it, then it's a heavy invasion. I've seen battle tanks and APCs

I think we’re seeing four convergent things.
Russia isn’t as strong as expected AND they’re not going full-throttle yet.
Ukraine is stronger than expected AND fighting harder than expected.

I think that Russia does have the capability to shut down electric power in Ukraine. For some reason, Putin has not yet launched an all-out general attack on Ukraine.

Putin's strategy may be to utilize these military ops as a fulcrum/lever that will compel Ukraine to settle things with Russia at the negotiating table. But, to be honest, I don't understand Putin's thinking at this point.
Thinking same here

They are clearly trying to limit the impact of the fighting in the cities.
That's going to play hell with the 'Putin is the Pale Horse of Revelation' hysteria but they aren't fighting this like the 1st or 2nd Chechen Wars---where they blew the living hell out of everything or even how we 'liberated' Baghdad and put main gun rounds through buildings.

Because they are fighting a very limited military action and wanting the rebuild and transition to be quick and as bloodless as possible. And despite a great propaganda war being fought independent of any military action.
Remember this is there 1st large scale military action of this type for them in a couple generations. They are working out the kinks of supply and command and control under fire. Before this they used specialized units or contractors to fight for them. There are going to be hiccups with green troops and commanders. Look at this as a test run for a real war later.

Watching the videos coming in last night and this morning, it seems like Russia is sending in lightly equipped ground forces with little to no heavy ordinance/equipment into the urban areas and the residential suburbs.
That seems like no way to take a city.
We saw it in kharkiv, sumy, etc.
Is it reconnaissance?
They are sitting ducks.
The whole goal of Russia here is to inflict a minimum of damage on cities and civilians. The Russians consider the Ukraine to be Russian, from the very beginning of their civilization, and that "Ukrainians" are brother Russians. Unlike, say, Sherman's march against Georgia, the Russians don't see their opponents as scum. They're family that will be re-integrated into Russian society. Because the Rus started in Kiev, "Ukrainian" monuments and history ARE Russian Monuments and history. No Russian wants to bomb a statue of Vladimir the Great, or a monument to Yaroslav the Wise. That's THEIR history. THEIR people.
The Russians are, to a point, willing to take greater losses among ground troops if it means fewer civilian casualties and damage to homes, apartment buildings, etc. It's a lot easier to reintegrate functioning cities and farms than rebuild them from scratch.

If you compare it to the blitzkrieg Germany did on France, Russia is actually gaining ground faster.
Society has been groomed to want results NOW.
It took the Unites States War Machine weeks to take Baghdad and they didn't care about the infrastructure
Russia owns most of Ukraine's infrastructure and is being careful.
Ignorant Americans want to see results now because the media said it should take 1-4 days to take Kiev, when Russia hasn't seemed to even try yet. They've not hit the city yet other than missles at specific targets and very small groups doing recon, from any report that I've seen.

Because the areas they are invading are ethnic Russian, pro Russian territory.

Their main battle tank T-72 became their main battle tank in 1969.

They threw their best units into it from the get go, Spetznaz. Putin has surrounded himself with Yes Men
Their technology is crap and old. Note how the Israeli's circled Tehran several times in fighters and the advance Russian air defense batteries never knew that they were there.
Finally their craftsmanship is crap countrywife

MOUT requires a fast, agile, lightweight forces. When we trained anything heavier than a HMMV was dead weight.
