Not God-like, but they were way smarter than we presently are. Of that, there is no doubt.

Sometimes people get the US Constitution mixed up with the Bill of Rights.
The Constitution was created in 1787 and went to effect 1789. The Founding Fathers realized early that it would be a ever changing document. Six months after the constitution went into effect James Madison created the Bill of Rights and 10 were ratified in 1791. One more of Madison’s amendments was ratified 202 years later in 1992.
The US Constitution was changed to allow freedom of the press, right to bare arms etc... The FF’s knew the constitution wasn’t perfect, but it would be a guide to become a more perfect union.
The FF’s changed the constitution and it will continue to have small changes.

The founders would have made changing the constitution much easier if they had known that Americans attached so much unreasonable sanctity to the document.
That is quite possibly one of the absolute stupidest assumptions you can make regarding American history.

I agree. The Constitution is founding document created for specific purpose of protecting our sovereign nation and liberty of our citizens. The only reason the left want to alter it is to take those Liberties away. Why would anyone want that?

As most of you know we have the oldest constitution in the world. And it ain't close.
So, how would you change it?
We have the most free, richest, best country on the planet. Why the hell is there a sudden push to revise or completely redo the Constitution?

Amendments by majority vote of Congress and passed by President (like a bill).
No.

The founding fathers founded a country. Wrote a radical new constitution unlike anything before or after it. Fought an entire War to preserve their Nation.
What have you done? Voted for a losing candidate and now want to rig the system against those who think differently than yourself?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the framework laid out by the constitution and its amendments. The fact that the document so clearly provided for substantive changes as society progressed while retaining its fundamental character is a prime example of its brilliance.
Every single “Constitutional” crisis that exists in this country is a direct result of the Congress forfeiting it’s responsibilites to the Executive, and then hiding behind the Judiciary when it didn’t like the results. Every. Single. One.

You should have seen it before the 1974 constitutional convention. It was even worse and filled a bookshelf.

Zach, if you asked the average American high school student “Was Abraham Lincoln a founding father?” The answer would be “Who?”.

Precisely. OP is obviously ignorant of the fact that the Constitution is very hard to amend by design. The drafters were far, far more concerned with guarding against ‘tyranny by majority’ than they were against tyranny via a unitary executive/king.

bullshite. Go read the Declaration of Independence.

But he did raise an interesting issue.
The founders would have made changing the constitution much easier if they had known that Americans attached so much unreasonable sanctity to the document.
Obviously depends on the specific person he’s referencing but the majority of the actual founders (like 7-10 men) would not agree with that statement. The despised the idea of unlimited government.

Then there is no point in even having a Constitution. That process would literally remove the very reason the Constitution exists and would mark the end of federalism in this country.

Can suck a 1776 dick as far as I am concerned.

Example: La. is the size of a lot of small nations. La. has had about 20 constitutions.
And how is LA doing compared to other states that have a much smaller and smarter constitution? Many of these states have way less resources.

No the founders were smart enough to write in safety guards to make sure the government had a hard time becoming tyrants.
British guy doesn't know dick or is a progressive liberal. Sounds like both.

Well, in a previous critique of America's stupidity he said:
"Almost a third of Americans believe that the media just makes things up."
Well that does show that 2/3rds of the country haven't caught on yet, so maybe he was right!

quote:No point HAVING a Constitution under this system. Constitutions should not be subject to change on a whim.
a. Amendments by majority vote of Congress and passed by President (like a bill).
quote:Not much better.
b. The aforementioned plus ratification by majority of states... 26 states.
quote:Actually, I think we should hold a convention to CONSIDER (and recommend) changes to the Constitution every 10 or 20 years ... changes which would be enacted (or not) under the existing regimen. They might not even present any recommended changes, but just mandatorily LOOKING at the question periodically seems like a good idea.
c. Rip it up and hold a new convention.

1) How the F can a guy born in 1809 be considered a Founder of a country that was “born” 40 years before he was born?
2) Whonhives a darn about what a Brit thinks about our constitution? We kicked their arse out for a reason.
3) with the Brexit vote being ignored they should mind their own business.

Are you suggesting Louisiana is a good example of what a Constitution should be like?

Only thing I would approve of is re-writing the constitution to reflect modern language but requiring 4/5ths of the states to ratify it
