95% and 80% with natural immunity? vaccines? both?

COVID19 is the first pandemic we've ever tried to vaccinate our way into herd immunity with, and we are doing it with an experimental vaccine.

Polio vaccines weren't introduced until decades after the epidemic hit the US. Same for measles. In fact measles fatalities (thousands of deaths per year at the turn of the century) were almost non existent by the time vaccines became available even though almost 100% of American children contracted it. That's herd immunity.

This is a terrible comparison.

You think if we had a viable vaccine for polio a year after the first cases they would have waited 10-20 years before distributing it?

They had to wait that long because the technology wasn’t there to produce a vaccine any quicker.

And I’m all about people not getting shots if you don’t want to. Your body your choice.

I work there. What we ARE seeing is an influx of people in the ER who THINK they have covid. It's fear that's driving this. Yes, there has been an uptick in covid and RSV. And the uptick is nothing near the first, second and third wave. And the only reason I will get the vaccine next year is because I will travel abroad.

When we start seeing an uptick, we don't assume we are at the crest. Therefore, you can't compare this to the other waves because it's not a "wave" yet.

“I am currently working in the COVID ICU in my local hospital. We are experiencing a major surge & 98% of admissions are unvaccinated patients. I have cared for critically ill patients in their 30s, 40s, & 50s. Each patient regrets not having gotten the vaccine when it was first offered. Please don’t hesitate any longer—get vaccinated!“

This is such a bullshite number. For starters the Baton Rouge hospital on CBS that said they were inundated with patients had a whopping 23.

So tell me what is 98% of 23?

22.5 So I am guessing there was only one patient vacinnated and he only had half the vaccine.

This is likely over 70% of the admissions. It's running rampant right now.

You are misunderstanding me. I'm not comparing these pandemics in those terms. Tigerskin did. I am drawing a distinction by highlighting the fact that we've never achieved herd immunity with vaccines the the way we are attempting to do now. This is new territory. Even if everything with these vaccines were perfect, we would need 100% of humans vaccinated at an 80+% efficacy rate, and we can't technically achieve that. It'll take a whole lot of natural immunity to bridge that gap. People getting Covid is a good thing as long as they are not dying.

I had a 30 day vacation planned for Phuket. I just cancelled. Air Emirates honors the ticket through 2023. Very reasonable. I'm thinking I just go to Costa Rica next week last minute for like 2 weeks. That's a trade-down, huh?

My son just got over Croup Cough that a neighbor's son gave him. It was a bitch.

The pediatrician said it was running rampant through Baton Rouge right now.

I think the number that is going to be the big one, is the one that people that already had covid are not going to hospital once reinfected.

I have heard of three cases, all parents of friends, where they were vaxxed and are in critical care units right now. So either I am incredibly gifted at knowing the only outliers or these people saying everyone in the ICU is not vaccinated.

I personally know of a spreader event where 26 infections occurred and 22 of those individuals were fully vaccinated.

And how many of those 22 were "presumed" positives?

My wife and child were tested after a potential exposure and both were negative. The urgent care doc recorded them both as presumed positives based on nothing more than timing and proximity to a confirmed case. This is another data point that the CDC wont published. Millions of "presumed positive" cases, which I'm sure explode in number with every big fear push. I think this is why flu cases have vanished and why this RSV bug going around is being ignored.
