Props to Trump Admin. on pausing the border work being done in Big Bend….

I’m not arguing for or against the construction at that location. But given the significant pushback from locals, including law / border enforcement, I think the administration is doing the right thing to listen; even if that means construction will go ahead eventually.
I’m not educated enough on the facts / details to know whether construction at that location makes sense. But I do applaud the administration for listening to the people. The media should recognize that.
One could argue it is also a political move; maybe so. But they are listening regardless.

Big Bend National Park is in Brewster County pop 9458 as of 2025
Any pushback isn't coming from locals. Trump won the county with 55% and it's a safe bet he won on immigration. Now Marfa is another story, the artsy fartsy hub went 64% for kamala and more illegals.

I’m not a fan of the recreation economy arguments, but the impact on wildlife and archaeological significance of the section (about 17 miles if I remember correctly) arguments are legitimate.
I suspect Don Jr has been relaying a lot of the complaints from respected conservationists and he’s right to do so, imo.
There are better ways to safeguard this section.

I was including the state, more than just Brewster County, but I probably should have not used the word “locals” only. My mistake in communication.

Havent been to big bend in a few decades - would hope they'd 'go easy' on walls along the border there - beautiful scenery.

It is my understanding that there are massive sheer bluffs right at the river’s edge. It is a natural wall. Nobody knew how the wall construction would even be feasible.

In general, I am a big fan of preserving nature and national parks. But I have never been to Big Bend.
Just looking at the few pictures and video footage I have seen recently, it looks like a wasteland to me. I prefer more green.
But I certainly respect the fact that there are many who care significantly about that place.

It isn't a crossing point. Anyone who tries to walk from Mexico to anywhere through Big Bend would have a very rough trip. I've been camping in Big Bend several times and have never seen anything to suggest that it is a crossing point for undocumented migrants.

?Last week I asked Chatgpt to list the public communication sessions that Border Control and National Parks during the last 6 months. The response was zero! It did locate one closed door session with a few county commissioners but nothing. The lack of communicating project scope allows every other loud mouth to describe a sky-is-falling scope that may have no relation to truth. Federal government gets an aw shucks here for poor management. Pausing is the right thing to do. Sending the accountable Feds to the north slope Alaska for reassignment would help also.

Yep…I saw the percentage of crossings there as reported by Border Patrol. I can’t remember the number but it was very very low.

Agree. Summers and winters are brutal. Virtually no water for many miles in either direction north of the river. Have primitive camped multiple times in the park. Had to pack water in everytime regardless of site (desert or Chisos mountains).

Was in Big Bend back in March. The way it was explained to me, the proposed path for the wall was off the river and inside the U.S. border.
Locals were not happy about the access to the river being cutoff by the wall.
