Five different redistricting bills were filed in anticipation of the Calais ruling. If you open the link for any one of the bills and scroll down there is a map of the new districts and also a demographic breakdown for each district.

HB642

SB116

SB117

SB122

SB407

I couldn't find a way to extract the maps - you have to open each bill and scroll down.

Every bill except SB116 creates one majority black district (District 2). In SB116, there is a 45% white plurality in District 2.

Caroline Wren told War Room this morning that Landry wants the one black district, but the legislature doesn't.

none appear to be a completely red map. SB 116 has a majority white (44/42) but is still majority dem district

HB642: still one clearly gerrymandered district (5-1).

SB116: all regular shapes, could easily go (6-0).

SB117: looks pretty much like the current map (4-2).

SB122: see HB642 (5-1).

SB407: interesting. Could go (6-0), could also go (4-2), imo.

The maps are near the bottom of each link.

There is no reasonable way to drawn maps in Louisiana that 100% assure a 6-0 result. New Orleans is too large and concentrated.

She either lied, or didn't bother to look at the bills.

Don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either.

I actually like this map. It looks the least gerrymandered. The districts are all geographic with no weird shapes, and mostly follows cultural/geographic boundaries.

Even 407 is pretty dumb to me. BR Metro area and Monroe should not be in the same district.

Agreed. But the NE corner of the state is so sparsely populated that the district almost has to draw from the northshore, meaning it has to include some portion of northern metro BR in order to be contiguous.

These entirely correct reasons are exactly why I'm positive we'll still get some jigsaw abortion of a map. SB116 simply makes too much sense.

All of the bills were filed before the Calais ruling was released - if anything I would be surprised if there wasn't an internal debate about whether to go 6-0 or 5-1.

It is interesting that all of the 5-1 bills strongly favor Troy Carter over Cleo Fields.

There is no such thing as for sure going 6-0. Population distribution and geography pretty much assure at least one district that's purple, if not light blue centered on Orleans Parish.

That is, unless we're going to put out some stupid, anti-democratic map like Illinois or Maryland.

True, but the full inclusion of St. Tammany in District 1 offsets a great deal of the Orleans Dem vote in SB116, and it’s faithful to having a regular shape. I think that would make it squarely purple and likely determined by voter turnout in most cases. If 5-1 is the outcome, I have no problem as long as district construction is fair.

That's why SB 116 is my favorite of those five. It is far and aware the most sensical. Plus, and I guess I'm in the minority on this site, but i want more competitive districts; they lead to better candidates and not just pander bears.
