I think it’s a divisive term.

It's a force-field word. Conservatives have done it with "Jesus" in the past, and it was annoying then... but what liberals have done with "white privilege" might be one of the worst blights to ever invade our culture.

That the person has chosen to ignore facts and will base their argument in emotion

I think whoever uses the term does so with the purpose of looking for an excuse or seeking to exploit.

It's usually a pretty good indicator that the person using it is not prepared to deal in facts.

I think "Ah, another loser at life who happens to be black or brown blaming white people for their shortcomings as a human"

I think it's an invented term thrown around by rich, self-loathing, white-guilt liberals as a psychological mechanism to somehow make up for their own inward bigotry, while simultaneously being a mechanism for these dilettantes to criticize and demean working class white people.

I'm out as soon as I hear it because it's a "strategy" word and not a "truth" word. Dishonest people use it.

It would be more palatable if it was used sparingly.

Unfortunately, it's used as a catch all to explain everything that the left wants to demonize.

The first thing I think of is affirmative action. If you’re an African American or a woman, you’re pretty much guaranteed a job over a white male, even if you’re not as qualified.

I think it does a great disservice to lots of people. Try convincing a poor white person in Appalachia that he has white privilege that he apparently hasn't had access to, and you will find him deaf to any other argument, even ones to his benefit.

I think the term "white privilege" is a roundabout way of talking about class, but it inculcates groups of people who have never had access to this supposed privilege. If people want to talk about class, that discussion is something that would cross racial lines in my view.

Much like the terms "racist", "xenophobe", etc., it's also used as a means to stop discussion.

It's a way to shift responsibility from individuals to the collective so you can generalize and stereotype without feeling like a hypocrite
