I do think they can close some of the smaller post offices. Having 2 within 5 - 10 miles of each other is redundant in rural areas. They are still by far the cheapest option compared to UPS and FedEx, so prices could be raised. They still do fine where I live and I use them, but most of my mail is junk these days. Just thoughts.

Yet I STILL get stuff lost in the mail every few months.

They only thing I get through USPS is junk mail and bills.

I bet the Biden family and friends got a bunch of "junk" mail the past few years in the form of $$$.

My dad's house got like over two kitchen trash cans full of junk mail last year and his is in assisted living. We keep his house as a storage place.

Need to find someone like ole "Carvin' Marvin" Runyon. We whipped TVA into shape and later the USPS.

The problem is the employees are paid way more that they should be, and they're now increasing shipping rates to a point where it's cheaper in many cases to ship things via UPS than through USPS.

Trump's Movement MUST continue past his final four years in office, because, it's going to take more than four years to fix this huge mess that is the US Federal Government - all three branches.

Postal service was not designed to make a profit. Any profits goes back to government; now where does that money go not sure.

Any of you older folks remember when mail carriers WALKED their route? No vehicles saved a lot of money.

the "gov't job" has turned into what the cash handouts and freebies are for the illegals. They don't expect the people to work, don't expect the dept to balance budget. They keep adding employees because they will be expected to A) grid lock the gov't when asked to revolt against an "enemy", B) vote for Marxists, because that's who gave them the job and is trying to keep them in that job.

This half happens in cities.

When I lived in Nola the postal worker would park their vehicle and walk the streets. Your mailbox is on your house, so it would be dumb to pull up to each house, get out walk up to the mailbox, get in your vehicle, pull forward 5 feet and go again.

Speaking of the junk mail. I looked at my informed delivery and I have one piece of mail coming today. Some bullshite earn 80K miles from southwest.

So the post office is going to send someone out miles away to my house to drop off one piece of trash again.

USPS and Amtrak need to go bye bye. They’ve taken billions every year and can’t find a way to be solvent.

The board of governors has to approve the raising of rates. Members of congress sit on that board. They recently recommended raising rates to the board but got turned down. USPS was profitable in the late 90’s. Congress decided they needed the profits and made the post office prepaid health and retirement benefits for the next 30 years even for employees who weren’t hired yet. Biden mandated that the usps buy electric vehicles. So now add in the chargers. Most of the losses stem from the prepaid retirement and healthcare mainly around 5 billion a year. They just can pay it so it adds in to the liabilities

less mail more employees and packages still take forever and often get lost.

I like my mail carrier. Always friendly. Even she complains about the sorting and logistics of the department.

As a kid we always had great carriers. It is a shame because I do remember them delivering in rain and snow. Some mornings my dad would leave coffee in a thermos for them and the trash men..

My guess is the volume is decreasing but the number of routes, homes and businesses getting a delivery continues to increase which gives the paradox. Despite that, most all new neighborhoods require a centralized mail box. All the new ones here in my town require this. I do like the idea of changing days mail runs. We don’t check our mail but 1 or 2 times a week anyway and it’s still just junk mail.

Exactly, number of stops /addresses have dramatically increased

But the solution should be mail delivery 1 or 2 times a week instead of 6

If anything is important abs must be there we all fed ex or ups it anyway

Isn’t the postal service spending most of its time doing the final couple miles of delivery for Amazon?

Just raise the postage to cover or lower your operating costs to meet revenue. This is basic.

Their business would crater even more if FedEx and UPS siphoned more daily revenues from them.

Sometimes, but it's rare in my area.
