What if a lot of your friends were adulterers or thieves?

My church doesn't care if you are gay. Toddy is as welcome as the alcoholic.

What churches make homosexuality a big deal? I know it's not the Catholic church.

I know people who cheat on their spouses. That is a sin. It doesn't mean I disown them, abandon them or even dislike them, but to try and rationalize that adultery isn't a sin is ridiculous.

This sin is a bit different though.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

i'm a former baptist and they made it a big deal for sure. way too big a deal.

current church (nondenominational Bible church) and i've heard it probably 2-3 times from the pulpit, but it was only in the context of the scripture at hand. not some random tangent.

my parents church had actual sermons just about it at times in the 90s.

They don't make a big deal out of priests diddling altar boys, either.

For those complaining that someone is ‘changing what is sin’:

Galileo was imprisoned for the SIN of saying earth orbited the sun

If you took any Christian from 1800 to any beach today, all the girls would be sinning.

It isn’t unusual for sin to be changed.

I’m not antagonistic toward Chrianity. I think it is good to discuss things.

5 years ago, she'd have probably said it was a sin. Now is she waffling because she really has doubt or is it because she's famous and wants more exposure on shows like Ellen? None of us know for sure. But this won't sit well with her base.

Remember when Katy Perry was a Christian singer? She's now a nasty, vile, woman.

Most churches don't make homosexuality a big deal any longer. Those hard core Baptist churches aren't the ones growing.

Without our society actively committing these deadly sins, our economy would collapse:

Lust
Gluttony
Greed
Sloth
Wrath
Envy
Pride

I can't tell you how often I've read about how proud people are on these boards.

it's a reason i'm not in a Baptist church anymore.

when i got married i went to my wife's church which was an SBTC (southern baptist of texas convention) and it was way more reformed and less altar cally.

when we moved 10 years ago we visited Baptist churches and realized how far removed from the old SBC churches we had become. they haven't evolved at all. i think you can not change the message of the gospel, but find better ways to share it. they haven't.

Well Lauren, there's this book that answers all of that...

Well, said book also calls for stoning people to death for doing menial things. Killing adulterers too. So there is that.

Imagine that. A Church, who is commissioned with teaching it's congregation, actually teaching what the Bible teaches.

AMAZING!

i don't think those are legitimate sins in scripture. they're just what somebody added to scripture to get their desired outcome.

i mean there are going to be people burning in hell who used the Bible to justify slavery and died thinking they were good christian folk.

just because there's somebody who twists scripture to suit their needs doesn't mean sin changes.

ETA: homosexual sex was considered as sin in the entirety of the Bible. there's no context to make that go away.

I don't think you understand what pride means in this context.

You can be proud of your children. That's not a sin.

(b) She can either embrace God's Word or embrace the world - but not both.
