Really not how it works. Criminals are dumb and don't care who might or maybe have a gun they will still commit crimes regardless. That's what makes them criminals in the first place.

You don't think enough of them don't know that the liquor store or business or house they are about to attempt to rob that the person behind the counter or door just might have a gun? Agree. Watching that makes me feel anger, sadness, rage. Seeing someone's life end as she tried to get away. It's just sick and horrific.

I don't think that's an accurate characterization.
It isn't that someone might have a gun. It's more that they likely won't have a gun. I don't care how stupid someone is, criminals generally don't want to be shot to death.
The whole idea is to turn likely won't into probably will. Even stupid criminals understand risk-return ratios.

Estimates are there are about 350 million guns in circulation in the United States. There certainly is no shortage and they are not exclusive to criminals. Plenty of people - both law abiding citizens and criminals have them. Criminals simply do not care because that is what makes them criminals.

So what. I'm not posting how many I own, but it's more than one. Individual ownership rates matter, not "guns in circulation." What do you suppose the legal firearm ownership rate is for a place like Baltimore?
