Same Poll says that only 42% of Democrats believe that "Knowingly portraying false information as though it were true" is Fake News. My hunch is that these questions and available responses were not clearly understood.

Never happened... Fake News...

These surveys are often super biased and write questions that lead to the desired responses. Anybody who's ever studied statistics or data can tell you this.
That said, you can double that percentage of the republicans on this board. Just last night Hail posted a shitty fake meme about Sanger w a totally made up quote, 45 upvotes & 4 downvotes. A couple posts later I actually called him out, made it clear she never actually said that, 11 down votes & 1 upvote (although I was kind of snarky).
This poll is hitting on some real truth in our country (on both sides), the truth is now something you can google search until you find it in a form that you like. Anything else? people call it fake news.
It's a dangerous trend in my opinion, doesn't benefit anyone except those in the media industry. It's creating an even bigger political divide that probably shouldn't be there.

Constant overly negative news like smear bits about his Diet Coke drinking habits or steak eating habits designed to humiliate him and color public opinion are absolutely fake news.
How does the media answer for over 90% negative coverage when Trump is winning nearly every traditional measure of presidential success?
The fact that a poll even has to ask about inaccurate reporting and fake news should tell you all you need to know about the honesty on the media.

Fake News defines what is "accurate" and conducts poll based on flawed premise.
It was a Gallup-Knight Foundation survey. WaPo quoted the number from the survey.
I guess you make up part of the 42%.

People not understanding the questions certainly plays some role. But that definition was the only one listed that didn’t specify that the source was a journalist or a news agency. Responses to that question weren’t nearly as different based on party as the one OP mentioned, and the people of both parties that answered “sometimes” were likely just considering that a person presenting a lie as the truth may be “fake” but it’s only “fake news” if it comes from a source that represents itself as a source of news.

How do you answer for the fact that the Wall Street Journal has 70% negative coverage of Trump?

Why do you keep pretending WSJ is conservative?
ETA: not that I expect 50/50 coverage of anything, but you know as well as I that a huge swath of journalism is recycled pieces from the AP, Reuters, etc.. mostly negative pieces that bleed into other rags. The issue with the media is systemic. I would venture a guess that drudge links mostly negative Trump stories, because that's pretty much all that's out there.

i Would like to see the exact question asked to those polled
The disconnect is likely in the definition of “accurate.”
Is the MSM accurate when they say “doctor ____ says trump shows signs of xyz?”
I guess that doc did say it but it’s bullshite. It’s them searching for opinions that fit their narrative, which is always the most negative spin possible, rather than them being objective with the goal of keeping the masses informed.
Just like when they found economists to predict stock market crashes, found professionals to state no wage growth or trickle down from tax cuts. It’s all complete bullshite, but then again those people did say it.
After being wrong at every turn, yes I consider that fake news. News is just opinion based propaganda these days. Basically what they pass for news these days isn’t real news

It would be like me having a massive platform and using it to just broadcast that you're shitty.
Now, while those that hate you would tune in to watch every show or read every article on my platform. More sane individuals would be aware that using my entire platform to just talk shite about you..isn't news.
If it's not news..but I claim it is news, then it's fake news.
We could call it "not news".. but that doesn't have the same ring to it as "fake news".

Don't see the problem with this. If they are either negative or positive, they aren't objective reporting. If somebody considers news to be objective reporting, then negative stories qualify as fake news.

Those negative Trump innuendos and inferences make WaPo fake news.
This.
Hell, I was reading an article yesterday about international tourism in 2017. And the article went on and on about it being down in the US; leading with speculation that it was because of Trump. Then dropping at the very end of the article one line "However, much of the changes to international transit to the US are likely due to the strong US Dollar vs. other major currencies."

Also this really says more about how terrible and dishonest the media is than it does about Republicans. When every single thing put out by the media is a negative attack piece and many are proven to be false, it makes sense that people would stop believing every report they see and expect it to be fake

I am one of the 42%.
Most fake news stories aren’t flat-out lies. They are written or framed in an extremely biased matter that makes them no more than propaganda. For instance, the Diet Coke story - probably not false but clearly fake news.
Many times the headline in the story or tag line has a question mark in the end. This immediately means fake news to me - most likely it is a wild theory that someone has come up with that is portrayed and framed as fact.
Another example would be the headline that states “bipartisan opposition” which is really just McCain and a bunch of Dems.
Granted - some are completely bogus and made-up - like the edited koi video or the Wikileaks heads up or the staging of interviews.
