People would probably also vote to tax the top 5% at a 80% rate if it meant they received $100k/yr in return.
People are ignorant

Majority of Louisiana populace is illiterate in terms of financial planning and economic matters

They can support it all they want. Guess what will happen (as a business owner) if this was ever passed?
Answer: I’m gonna fire almost all low wage employees, and delegate their responsibilities to the salaried employees. Salaries employees will get a slight bump in pay. I’m not paying a low skilled person that kind of wage. Not gonna happen.

The findings come from the third of six reports from the Louisiana Survey, a project of the Manship School’s Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs and conducted by the Manship School’s Public Policy Research Lab.
Something else I found interesting from the same study:
quote:
Three-quarters of people surveyed believe teachers earn less than they actually earn
People underestimate how much teachers make, but largely continue to think they need to keep being given raises.

I can't say I'm surprised. Sure, this state is socially conservative to an extent (probably less than some other southern states because we have several urban areas) but this state has never been fiscally conservative.
Welfare queens in this state are black, white, and every shade in-between. We have a tremendous "paid under the table" economy here. We don't want to pay any taxes here, but we expect SOMEONE to pay for all these services, your healthcare, etc.
This is what I keep trying to tell y'all. Many of y'all live in this echo chamber of the PT board. But you get out there in the real world, and you realize this place ain't nearly as conservative as y'all think it is. With 44% of "Republicans" supporting a 15 an hour min wage, that's why we say we won't be surprised if JBE wins re-election. That's what we are dealing with out here.

That's because Trump gets up there and shouts MAGA and wants to build walls. News flash, Trump isn't a fiscal conservative either.

A lot of people don’t understand what a $15/hour minimum wage would do to the state/country. It would make the cost of living sky rocket because everyone working would get raises . Then everyone over 40 that doesn’t have a great retirement plan would have to work til they die . Taxes would go up to pay the higher pensions for city and county workers. Raising the minimum wage to $15/hour doesn’t help anyone in this country.

Misleading title, this was a poll for minimum wage for teachers. Which I'd be surprised if there are teachers making less than $30k

It has already happened in NYC. Fast food places, restaurants and service industries have shed a lot of low level and entry level employees as a result. The people working are shifting to an older age group.

Polling has become a meaningless exercise in virtue signaling.
If these questions had a caveat of "even if it meant higher prices" or "if you were a business owner and were forced to pay higher wages," I would expect the results to be slightly different.

Democrats are incredibly ignorant. Does this really surprise anyone that the support confiscation of wealth from employers?

Who commissioned the poll and what are their interests? All of that sounds nice and can happily be agreed to over the phone. Put some meat on the questions like where the money comes from or how many jobs can be expected to be lost and you'll see some of these dolts come to their senses.

Haven't they seen enough carnage from other states/cities that did that??????????? As long as the same people don't mind their dollar menu going to $2, and the Big Mac going up a dollar or so. Walmart prices going up bc they will want more money for workers, it will all go up. Then 5 years later it'll be $20 an hour and we will do the same thing. Before long, the meal deal will be over $15.

No, it wasn't - they're two different studies within the same report. Teachers get paid salary, not by the hour.

Democrats are so fricking stupid.
Also, Democrats are clearly not business owners.
Also, Democrats are clearly not good at economics.
However, Democrats are good at feeling emotions, and being completely controlled by them.
85% of Dems versus 44% Pubs and 46% independents ---- it doesn't get any clearer then that.
