According to reports, police released the Nigerian brothers based on “new evidence” in the case — detectives are analyzing a bottle of bleach seized from Jussie Smollett’s apartment.
While it is common for a person to have bleach in their home, detectives will compare the chemical substance found on Smollett’s clothing to the bottle of bleach seized from his apartment.

What can they do with the bleach though? Does the chemical composition of bleach differ that much from individual bottle to individual bottle, considering they likely come from huge batches? Especially if it was a bit watered down/adulterated before he had it splashed on himself?

Dude, science!
Every batch with have different contaminates, and little known fact bleach degrades over time. NaClO yields NaCl (salt) and O2 (oxygen). Is there a test for degradation comparison of wet and dry samples? I wouldn’t want to bet my freedom on there not being one!

Look at the brand, the barcode, and possibly see where it was bought, when it was bought and possibly see if the rope happen to be bought at the same time or from the same store. They then could look at surveillance.

I know with pharmaceuticals there are lot numbers for medicine that are produced in the same batch. Maybe there is something like this and they can narrow it down by the lot number

They're just turning over every stone to 1.) let this guy know that they're not playing around and hopefully get him to confess and 2.) build an air tight case against him that no one will prosecute (unless that letter turns out to be his doing).
