I, as an American citizen, should see MY President’s tax returns so that I know who is funding him.

Why is that a controversial position?

Trump is American too and there is no rational argument for why an American should have to give up they're privately held personal information in order to run for office.

In fact thinking they should is entirely irrational if they want to that's up to them

People doing illegal things don’t file W-2s.
1. Trump is entirely within his rights in declining to release his tax returns.

2. No. But a 1099 (hypothetical) from Planned Parenthood might be interesting (or even important) to some voters. A hypothetical 1065 to build a Seoul hotel with a partner named Kim might influence others.

I find it interesting that so many people rely solely upon the W2 in these discussions.

thetigerman there is no right in the US Constitution for an American to have the right to see anyone's tax return.

Actually the Law states he does have to gove (sic, give?) VERY very detailed Financial Discloses under Campaign Finance Disclosures.
Finally, a rational argument. Thank you.

OP should be banned immediately. Threads where people post a drive by and then disappear should result in the banning of the person who starts the thread every time.

Because he doesn't have to and because there is no reason a person should be forced to hand over their tax returns in order to run for office are both also perfectly rational reasons

That is the FEC has a right, which has is not an induvial, but only the FEC and not the Senate or house.

That law should be challenged as it is very anti first amendment.

2. Another argument that just makes no since beyond its (small) rhetorical impact. I am able to understand MOST tax returns obtained in the course of discovery. When I receive an especially complex one, I hand it to my expert tax accounting witness, who explains the complex points to me.

People are just so uninformed yet jump out there boldly with these tropes. I try to be positive and tell myself they know better and are just bored and trolling....but we all know that just isnt true.

Some people have other things to do than sit on TD and respond to whatever monkey poop gets flung at a thread for the next hour or so.

if it's some rule that the President has to release his full returns, then it should apply to all federal positions and all federal workers

There are two requirements to be President of the United States. Tax returns is not one of them.

If you are going to start a thread by throwing monkey poop then participate in it. Otherwise you should be banned.

Obama spent the entire WH Correspondents Dinner obsessed about Trump which fueled him to run and crush Hillary

That obsession was beyond strange and sure did backfire

This misses the point entirely

Since the vast majority of people would have no hope of understanding the tax returns of hell pretty much anybody who's run for president then they will all be no smarter for the release than they were before it. It will just be fodder for demagoguery
