And Obama blinked. He has now agreed to meet with Perry in Dallas (along with local religious and political leaders including the Mayor).

Like I said, Perry played it perfectly.

Its nothing but showmanship on Perry's part.
All it was was a photo op for Obama. Good for Perry not going to see that shite show before he went off to fundraise.

This whole argument is overplayed and dumb already.
For starters, Perry is a tool. As some have said, he is a perfect example of the pandering, crappy politicians that plague the Republican Party.
That aside, Perry is completely correct in his actions here and, not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, if anyone else would've made this move, it would be portrayed by the media as the smart political play. He has not refused to meet with Obama as you said. He just refused a photo op and removed a card from Obama's deck.
Obama can't say, "I met him at the tarmac and we talked about the situation."
He now has to either meet him or risk possible fallout when he gets called out for not meeting with Perry.
Perry played the situation correctly.

I mean, the freaking arrogance of fundraising in Texas while we are being flooded with immigrants without even stopping by the border long enough for a photo opp is outrageous.
This. Why give a photo op to an egomaniac who is giving your state (and all border states) the finger?

Almost everything Perry does is political.
Everything a politician does is called "political". The question is a simple one. Is he right?

Refusing to meet with the President does nothing to solve the problem.
I disagree.

But why would Obama give Perry the time of day after Perry's statement Sunday that he thinks Obama doesn't give a damn about the border or the security of the country?
Why would Obama miss an opportunity to "shoot" Perry in the foot? He could go and view the boarder, meet with perry, and come out with a plan.
He won't. Perry knows it. The rest of the nation knows it. It's why Perry had the balls to say it.
quote:
why would Obama meet with the dip shite gov who has already made up his mind. Obama is basically saying "frick that moron".
1- it's not Obama's job to say frick him. His job to to secure the boarder.
2- To make Perry look like the dip shite you want him to be.

A politician doing political things, shocking.
Motives aside perry did the right thing. Is he still a tool? Yep. Does Texas deserve him? Yep

Is Perry to tool? Yep.
Is Texas doing better than most of the country despite him? Yep.
I have to love with the arrogant native Texans and even I don't get the blind hatred for them. They are annoying but to say they "get what they deserve" with him as governor ignores how well the state has done throughout the economic downturn.

These kinds of stunts have grown old. I
You mean stunts like a president trying to coerce a handshake from the leader of a state that fricking hates everything about Obama.
Obama could care less about America being safe. I have ZERO doubt that ISIS and every other hate group are walking across our border daily and can't wait to start killing Americans

No, I've just seen more than my share of Libs in Mod/Libtarian/whatever clothing on here to know the tree by the fruit it bears and your fruit is certainly leftist.
And I don't even have a strong opinion about Perry either way, it's just funny how the Libs here run down GOP guys and expect anyone to take their comments seriously.
lol ... typical republican response to a conservative ..

Simple response;
- President Obama was flying to Texas for two Democratic fundraising events.
- President Obama invited Governor Perry to meet him at the airport upon his arrival.
- Governor Perry declines because President Obama was not interested in visiting the international border, an issue important to Texans (e.g. securing the border).
My take? I am not interested in being a part of your photo op. Period.
You want to meet with me in my state? Then let's talk about issues that are important to my state.
End of drama/story. Non issue.

That's an accurate description of what happened. The headline wrongfully infers that Obama extended his hand and Perry refused to extend his hand.

BTW, the reports I have read have the illegal immigrants shipped to other states. So I guess Texas isn't getting "flooded".

This is a common fallacy
What's there to repect in an inanimate office? Nothing.
The President has done nothing to earn respect. Hell, he doesn't even respect his own job either.

He should stop at the border because his administration just asked the US Congress for 3.7 billion dollars of emergency appropriations.

He might have been able to use that visit to make a compelling argument for this funding. To demonstrate bipartisan leadership.
