Story via New Orleans City Business
Regardless of your thoughts on Medicaid and the imperative of govt to support indigent people and families, is it not a damning indictment and an embarrassment that economic productivity and opportunity is so low in the city that nearly half of its residents qualify for a program meant for those down on their luck, disabled, widowed, etc?
Folks like Tboy look at that stat and say “mission accomplished. We are bringing healthcare to the city”.
A normal person should look at that stat and say “what can we do to increase the economic productivity and activity enough to get people into income brackets where they don’t qualify for Medicaid”
What exactly are New Orleans politicians doing to increase the number of city residents who earn enough income to pay for their own insurance or get it through work?
Because this should not be the status quo anywhere. In previous decades in American history, a 40% qualification rate for Medicaid would send off flashing alarm signals that a given area is suffering from severe economic

Government spending on healthcare was already 45% of all healthcare spending in 2010.
Why, traveling to the sister cities of New Orleans, like Havana, of course.

I’ll bet my TD account there is a correlation.
Cmon, someone take me up on it

JBE went with the expanded Medicaid scam, so this isn’t surprising. A huge percentage of Medicaid spending is outright fraud.

I thought it would be higher, honestly. 40% actually gives me hope.

Wrong term, government issued cards for purchase of food that is backed by the credit of the country

Those free foods that are bought with government issued plastic(EBT) surely can’t be called debit cards because there is no cash in that USA bank

The entire state of Cali is 38%.....the fifth largest economy in the world and nearly double the national average, wonder how that happens, how in the world does that happen?

Unfrickingsustainable. We are going to need to start letting people die of their own doing or lack there of.
If they are are on MedicAid, they are also on EBT, Section 8 and God knows what other programs for the too lazy to work.

the majority don't care about education or doing well for yourself....when they are born they are taught all the ins and outs of how to beat the system. If they'd apply themselves that intensity to learn a trade, they would be far better off. They just don't know any better.
