Surely Trump recognizes that the longer this shite drags on, the worse it's going to be for midterms. He already may have done too much damage to recover from.

Prediction:

- Ground Troops will be deployed with the intention of them all being home before the end of the year (I do think that will be Trump’s genuine intent);
- We will sustain heavy casualties within the first month and that will continue for months;
- Sentiment even among the Trump absolutists will start to waiver at home and Trump will look for an exit;
- Lindsey Graham, Mark Levin et al. will use the loss of troops as pretext for full on, Iraq style invasion;
- Trump will fall for it and this time next year we will have 200k troops deployed to Iran.

That escalation is what I fear.

If we send troops and they start to get killed, will the admin pull the plug and admit embarrassing defeat? No way

The ground level in Iran is probably going to be crazy with multiple groups vying for power across the country, too. There is this belief by many that this will be a binary conflict and I don't understand how they can only see it that way

Pape has been interesting in explaining how the administration is getting pulled into the escalation trap.
LINK

He says Trump will always spend the currency when there is a troop buildup. I'm not sure, I feel like there is a split about what is coming and some people think those Marine expeditionary units are a bluff to scare Iran.

Precisely. We keep hearing that the war is over and that Iran has no remaining capability, yet we see them still striking Israel, SA and Qatar with accuracy.

Sadly, we are a few weeks out from seeing American soldiers being blown up by drones in the same way we have seen Russians and Ukrainians….terror on their faces right before being blown up.

Agree completely. Just like Iraq.

The escalation will hop when the drone snuff videos run wild across social media.

We have seen in Ukraine that things aren’t the same in ground invasions. Drones have changed the game.

These fuktards have no ide what they are advocating. Beyond taking Bandar Abbas at the Strait traveling around a very large country full of mountains with a populace that may or may not appreciate that there are foreign troops gallivanting around would be prohibitive. This is not Afghanistan. It's Afghanistan with large cities. With an organized military.

I think he was astute to point to his work showing that air power alone has never forced a regime change and that on our path we were going to get to this point if we didn't declare victory and leave. I hope you're right about the bluff.

What sucks is that with every day that passes, the more likely regime change becomes expected. There was a time in the past where bombing the regime alone and having no real long term impact would have been accepted by most of MAGA. But as the days go on regime change becomes more and more demanded. Escalating with troops on the ground likely accelerated this paradigm

What an embarrassing clusterfrick. This ended up being “Two weeks to slow the spread” all over again.

I think people on this thread are right to point out how drones are changing the game and the way the information space has changed will likely be inflammatory. The American people will see very graphic videos of our soldiers drone-hunted and the same for the enemy and I don't think they're prepared for this. It could create a momentum for getting into another in a long line of long quagmire wars we have a hard time avoiding for some reason.

The Pentagon has plans for what to do in case zombies take over, retard. That doesn't mean zombies are taking over any time soon
