Not necessarily. Just because a server is private does not mean it has as much of a rigorous security system in place as an ISP - but I didn't even realize AOL was still a thing.

The person who was obviously didn't do all that great of a job, considering I've been able to read some of the correspondense.

Regardless, the problem is not so much that a private server is used for certain communications, but that classified info is transmitted on these servers - which, regardless of security rigors, is quite frowned upon.
