The Atlantic magazine on Tuesday published an article suggesting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) would resign from her leadership role “in the not-so distant future.”

Sometime in the not-so-distant future, probably after next year’s midterm elections, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will announce that she’s stepping down” the Laurene Powell Jobs-owned publication wrote.

“Her top deputies… aspire to her job, but they’re also in their early 80s, and most Democrats in and out of Congress are counting on them to step aside too. Of course, they all have stock responses denying that anyone is ever going anywhere,” the article continued. “But the day is coming.”

“Democratic members of Congress won’t talk about any of this publicly, as if Pelosi might suddenly appear and pull their hearts from their chests,” Atlantic added before offering their elevator pitch for the next House speaker. “Pretty much every Democrat in Congress and beyond is confident that Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York will be the next speaker of the House, if Democrats manage to hold on to their majority next year.”

Hey, did all that insider trading for years, so I guess I better spend it in my twilight years.

Tomorrow is also the "not too distant future". That works better for me.

This is a tacit admission they expect to be in the minority next year.

If they fix the voting, she knows her days as leader are numbered, but if she gets all that pork passed, her family will be set for generations

Clyburn as Speaker would set race relations back a century.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

I think she steps down straight into a pine box and that’s the only way she’s letting go of her job.

She announced without really announcing she isn't running again with rumors of her getting an ambassadorship to The Vatican? She denied the Vatican rumor I guess...

It is within type of talks. She seems to be pissy with Obama. Maybe Obama inserted his choices for a BCC member and Pelosi said who died and made you boss?
quote:

Democrats are already closely watching the small cadre of their colleagues whose names have been floated for the top jobs, including Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, former Black Caucus Chair Karen Bass, and House Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff for speaker. Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark, Vice Chair Pete Aguilar and Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal are all also mentioned for high ranking positions.
Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark was in the news as replacing Pelosi. But I think the BCC will fight this.

I’d much rather she croak in the most so distant future.
