Over my many years here on PT, I have advocated for freedom of association, the right of self-determination, and peaceful secession.

It is as if this author crawled into my head and translated the hieroglyphs carved into the walls of my mind.

The left won't allow a peaceful separation

quote:

secession is an expression of freedom and, more specifically, the right of a people to self-rule and self-determination. There is much to be decided by government that is not necessarily amenable to technocratic solutions, but rather connects (or offends) on an emotional level, such as which languages will be official, whose heroes will be honored, and whose pieties observed. A self-governing nation-state must first be a nation; multiple, competing visions of who is in that nation, what defines it, and who are its friends and enemies, make the forced collection of different nations within a single polity both intolerable and unstable.

quote:

A peaceful national separation is probably a good idea. But those on the Right must face the most important obstacle: The Left would never ever let us leave.

quote:

The Left Is Totalitarian By Nature Leftism is not simply one opinion among many. For the Left’s votaries, it’s closer to a religion. It’s not enough that one is himself a vegan, drives a Prius, doesn’t own guns, rejects the traditional family, or anything else that goes with the lifestyle. It is essential that everyone else does so. Any deviations are “backwardness” and “divisive” or worse.

quote:

For all the talk of diversity and tolerance among the Left, this tolerance extends mostly to things most of us do not want to do. Most men and women do not want to change their sex or marry someone of the same sex. Most of us do not intend to leave the country our ancestors built. So the Left gives us the right to do things most of us do not want to do—gay rights, immigration—but takes away things that used to be commonplace, like supporting a family on a single income or governing our towns and cities without having to beg for the imprimatur of a hostile judiciary.

Perfect illustration of this quote from Ang Lee's Ride with the Devil:

Mr. Evans: No, it won't Mr. Chiles. But my point is merely that they rounded every pup up into that schoolhouse because they fancied that everyone should think and talk the same free-thinkin' way they do with no regard to station, custom, propriety. And that is why they will win. Because they believe everyone should live and think just like them. And we shall lose because we don't care one way or another how they live. We just worry about ourselves.

Jack Bull Chiles: Are you sayin', sir, that we fight for nothin'?

Mr. Evans: Far from it, Mr. Chiles. You fight for everything that we ever had, as did my son. It's just that... we don't have it anymore.

UNION.

It amazes me that so many on this board cry about athletes kneeling for the anthem saying how disrespectful it it is, but nothing is more disrespectful to the flag than proposing secession or displaying the confederate flag.

Nothing.

I would rather fight for my freedom from government and die than live under a Marxist Government like China
The left’s role model for America is Chinese communism

The obstacle to secession is the fact that no reasonable person would ever want secession. Saying you do is nothing more than fan fiction. It would be a long term disaster for any state who did so.

Thank you for being an example to the author's point:

How are the right wing politicians any different? There are no teams. This is a game, a show they put on.

He did not spare the GOP either:

quote:

Until Trump, the GOP saw itself as one wing of a responsible governing class. All the talk of shrinking the government and the culture war was just overheated rhetoric that no one in power seriously believed. The party’s leadership functioned to divert its voters discontent into an agenda more palatable to the ruling class. Thus, every campaign sounded like the second coming of Paul Revere, but in the end, the practical outcome was some work on the margins related to tax cuts.

The real reason leftists can't allow secession to occur is because this would leave them in a position where they would have to physically labor for their resources to satisfy their current lifestyles.

This would lead back to slavery or socialistic slavery. Call it what you will.

A problem is that they truly don't even understand this.

The raw stupidity here is astonishing. If you want to secede, move to your Russian utopia.

Wow. Do you know what that flag stands for?

The very birth of that flag’s predecessor was succession from an over bearing, authoritarian government. For FREEDOM!

These are the long term results of short term thinking.

On the single income: Couples started both working for the "extra" income, to get ahead. Price is a function of Supply and Demand. An increase in Supply of Cash caused Prices to rise. Same thing as falsely raising wages by declaring a mandatory minimum by effect.

The hostile judiciary: By electing the wrong people to judicial positions, and the wrong persons who appoint judiciary, over single issues instead of a whole package we end up with activist judges. Like anti-abortion/pro-abortion issue judges, what about the rest of these judges beliefs? Is your anti-abortion judge maybe anti gun, pro search and seizure, always sides with/against other issues? Too often it is single issue stances that determine initial support that over time erodes all else.

The real problem is the Federal Government got to big and powerful.

We should be ruled by the State Government which would give diversity of lifestyles.

What really angers people is when people of a different party force their ideas on you or deny you from doing something you want.

If we had 50 State governments who were allowed to truly govern people could choose where they wanted to live and how they wanted to live.
