Probably the correct answer. You wouldn’t even need blood thinners for many to be deadly.

Sounds like an alcoholic who ruptured his esophageal varices.
Yeah this happened to my brother one night and he died. He was living with us and our daughter found him. Horrific

WTF?! That's two people in one thread that know someone that this happened to.
Is that bad odds, or is this something we all ought to know more about? Jeez, man. I'm sorry to hear your account as well.

It’s another level of alcoholism that I can tell you. And mostly the hard stuff.

quote:Long time heavy drinker with cirrhosis diagnosis? It is caused by portal hypertension from the cirrhosis. Doesn't develop overnight. I don't know what the current treatment is in the hospital but there was once a oral gastric tube with bulbs on either end to tampanade the bleeding until something else could be done. I also remember 100% alcohol being placed in the esophagus to "sclerose" the varices

Nobody escapes the Grim Reaper, and very few of us get to choose the location and conditions when Grim Reaper comes to visit.
I pray for the poor man and his wife. Not a good thing when someone is left alone to deal with such a devestating ordeal. I cannot think of a more lonely feeling than having to deal with something like this....alone.
May he R.I.P.
