Never thought I'd see this attitude come to Mississippi.

School does a celebration each term of those who made honor roll. It really isn't anything special - typically outside pizza, an extended lunch period, and a pat on the back. They ask parents for $3 to cover the cost of pizza and that's that. We've been doing it for years.

It started with a parent bitching about paying $3. Now, it's a group of parents mad that their non-honor roll students are excluded from this. It appears that the school is just going to cancel the celebration altogether.

I remember the trend of celebrating mediocrity/everyone gets a trophy hitting, but now we are seeing a trend of not celebrating excellence in order to protect feelings.

+100

Stand up for the school to the mouthy parents. Tell them if they want their kids to be part of it then they need to work with their kids to get their grades up instead of trying to excuse their lesser grades while trying to take away from those that excel.

Yeah, let's bring everyone down to the lowest level.

With today's grade inflation, do you know how hard it is NOT to make the honor roll? Jesus, if these kids can't get a 3.0 in a modern school setting, they truly just don't give a shite whatsoever.

This is why public schools can be horrendous. You have to teach to the lowest denominator. So my kid suffers because your kid is a fricking idiot and you as a parent put no effort into helping him when he gets home.

This is a general comment, not aimed at any particular parent or kid. Just a rant

It's sad but many schools are not allowing celebrations for the students who work harder or are in any level other than the lowest possible.

Our district cancelled the TAG, talented and gifted program, the overnight trip because not every students had the chance to go. Talented and gifted students have for many years had their own trip, an educational trip, until now.

Elementary schools can no longer give ribbons to the winners during field day. The big award is given to the students who are the best at cheering on the other students.

So happy my kids are not in these schools today.

Lefties know how to fix this. Artificially inflate grades and lower present standards such that everyone qualifies, double the cost to attend to $6, partner with local pizza joint to reduce pizza cost to $2 per person, create government subsidies to pay for for honor roll pizza parties, pocket the difference, profit.

I said this one time in the following context and had a bunch of mommas made at me:

Mississippi has a third grade "reading gate." This has been a key part of Mississippi's education turnaround. The problem is that the teachers focus on this test all year. There are a decent number (maybe half) of kids that could have passed that test day one, but they had to suffer through the entire year.

My kids basically lost a year of school because of it.

Crazy.

I’m in Mississippi too, and this morning I’m getting my son’s snack bag together (PB&J, cookies, granola bars, fruit snacks) and he tells me he has to be at school early 8:05 because they have mass (button down and tie day) and he’s in the choir. The what? He’s a Jr in high school and I’ve never heard him mention choir to us at all.

I guess the boys school and the girl’s school have mass together, it is their church, and apparently they can mingle with the girls if you’re in choir. Says he gets to sit ‘at the top of the church’. I’m sure I was looking at him like he’s an alien. Choir?

Not everywhere is fricked up.

Random athletes joining choir. Just sounds so 1950’s. Don’t have to be subjected to shitty schools or parents…

I hope you just let them be mad. When people throw fits like that, they feel empowered then the other side backs down. It then becomes a field day for them to constantly bitch enough until things are "fair" for their kids.

NICE. But you left out the gas tax increase to pay for road repair to and from.
