On a board that's probably 80/20 conservative/liberal it's puzzling why anyone would think that the 20% are paid shills

I don't believe IB is a shill at all. I actually find myself in agreement with him/her somewhat often compared to other posters that generally rack up the downvotes.

i'm actually pretty conservative when it comes to how taxpayer money is spent. i've advocated for an across the board 1% decrease in department budgets per year until the budget is balanced for a long time now.

There are essentially human bot mills (ShareBlue) that specialize in this thing. Essentially you sign up and then get paid to be active on social media, comment sections, message boards, etc. and you get paid to spread left wing propaganda.
In other words, they aren't organic users who happen to be left wing, they are paid left wing activists there to disseminate the leftist narrative.
