We have a lot of Venezuelans here in Trinidad because we are only 7 miles from them. Most of them are the hardworking migrants that "the left" depicts US migrants to be.
The difference, we dont have a social safety net, net, heck, safety penthouse the US has invented for illegals.
You ask a Venezuelan here why they didnt go to America and its a big joke, they say we came to work not sleep and steal.

And one thing that has to be remembered, much of the founders immigration was set out because of two reasons:
1. Anticipation of others immigrating fleeing the crown or people in place, subject to the jurisdiction of the new government, who were still loyal to the crown. It was a nice way of saying join or die.
2. Expanding borders on the continent and absorbing new populations (French, Spanish, indians, etc.).
It was not built for, even though it can handle, cross-border immigration of a stable and treaty established line.
